So what are flying dinosaurs called? I'm actually genuinely interested to know.

Pterosaurs/"pterodactyls" were the flying lizards in the order Pterosauria, which actually isn't part of Dinosaura at all. Dinosaura are specifically land reptiles.
On that same note, Dimetrodons, icthyosaurs, Plesiosaurs, and those giant-ass Mosasaurs, are also not dinosaurs.
It just takes a little kid who's REALLY into prehistoric animals to learn and remember the difference. [edit] Okay that sounded not how I wanted it to. Those creatures were around, y'know, liberally sprinkled throughout the time of the dinosaurs. And kids into prehistoric animals don't really care what specific order it's from, unless they really REALLY want to know, so most books just toss the other reptiles in and don't bother to make not that they're not actually dinosaurs.
