♠ There's nothing like watching all three Jurassic Park movies in one sitting, for demonstrating just how fantastic the first one is and exactly how awful the second and third are. The descent from science fiction to monster moive is one of the main reason why the transition movie (2) sucks worse than 1 and 3, but there's also a very obvious slip ( Read more... )

I have not! but I probably can't afford to buy it anyway. I shall be in Mel outfit tomorrow, at least, for the leotard as not arrived. Find me at the Necrodragon stall!

*WAILS*

I HAAAAAAAAAAAAATED the Illyria stuff in Spike: ATF. It bugs SO HARD. I know a lot of what I've written for her is personal canon and therefore I can't complain when what they write violates it, but. I really, really wish they'd clarify what's up with Fred. Really. Because if they're just being lazy, I smash things.

Much as I want to, and much as I liked it, I still can't forgive the first JP movie for, y'know, not being the book. *puts on his Geek Hat*

Agree utterly that 2 and 3 suck, though...

But the book was second-rate skiffy-thriller. The movie is the best science fiction monster movie ever made.

You speak the truth- the problem is I read the book before the movie, and therefore suffered Phantom Menace-esque levels of disappointment when I watched the movie, which have coloured my opinions of it ever since.

I must also hasten to mention the fact I was a Very bloodthirsty Geeky Teenage Boy when I watched the movie?

And on a totally different note, I move to your city on the 1st of August! Can you recommend me any good pubs/clubs, or will I have to just spend all my money in the NHM gift shop instead? :)

The first movie has stayed with me, and still make me jump, since I saw it in the theatre with Dad. I love it. I adore it. It makes me glee with the characters' awe and wonder, and I flail when they are in trouble.

I wrote a history essay while watching the second.

Still haven't seen the third.

Yeah, Jurassic Parks 2 & 3 were very weak. I have no problem with monster movies, so long as they're good monster movies.

I think that really the whole franchise was doomed when they decided to aim it squarely at the kiddie market, so the full potential of dinosaurs and humans interacting could never be explored in all it's gory glory.

Yeah. The first movie was on very shakey ground anyway with its PG rating. They should have just given up the ghost and gone for a 15. It would have made better dinosaur movies.

(The very idea of 4 makes me shudder)

Do I remember this wrongly, or did the original movie have a rating of "PG- but some scenes may be unsuitable for under 12s" in a horrible echo of the now-infamous 12A rating?

Yes it did. It should have had a 12, but they argued that dinosaus is for kids dontcher know?
