The State of the Firefox

Because weaverandom did a list of her favourite Firefox extensions and I've been thinking of doing a post like this anyway: here's a handy guide to how I use Firefox and other tools to make my internet life easier. And as most of my internet life is Livejournal - well, you get the picture.

First of all we have Firefox itself. I know other people use other ( Read more... )

I'll throw in a recommendation for Colorful Tabs as well -- it's handy having your tabs be different colors. I know that I haven't fully explored the functionality, but I believe you can set certain pages to always have a specific tab color, etc.

DownThemAll! The mass downloader for Firefox

Useful for: Filesharing, mass thumbnail gallery downloading

Added what I mostly use it for there. Very useful for the sort of image gallery website that has lots of thumbs linking to the full image as a file. And not just for that sort of website[ 1].

LiveJournal Addons
Useful for: RP; Blogging; Everyone (who uses LiveJournal)
Disable all the LJ stuff and just use the programmable insets for comment boxes on blogs and bulletin boards, I've got a bunch of BB code inserts as well as some code only useful off LJ (like a " in italics paste function for sites using Wordpress that don't let me use q).

Definitely my favourite addon, just need to figure out if I can export my settings completely to the new PC.

[ 1] and any assertion that that's what I mostly use it for are of course baseless, unwarrented and entirely true.

- OK, that's awesome. And yeah, I use DTA! for mass pictures as well, sometimes. I just don't need to a lot.

Dear lord that is a lot of extensions. And this is coming from someone who reads Firefox developer blogs.

(Try HashColoredTabs+, Tab Counter, Tamper Data, /Find Bar/, refspoof, Taboo, Speed Dial, Firefox Showcase, Ctrl Tab Preview, Tab Scope...)

And hey, vanilla Firefox does some pretty cool stuff, both on the back and front ends. Like Firefox 3's address bar which is really just the greatest thing of all time.
