Someone whose name I don't recognise who has written books I've never heard of, is dead. And my friendslist is sad about it.

*sets out tea for you all*

But in my head, things are as good as can be when there is period related blahness keeping one away from work again. Which is mostly to do with the InnerMum being a great mum ( Read more... )

So, not just me with that reaction then? Good good.

I, um, have a similar reaction to shoe shopping--I own two pairs, a knackered 'smart' pair and a more knackered 'smart casual'. I need to go buy more, because the 'good' pair is now pretty much dead. Ah well, it can't be that scary, can it?

Oh, THANK YOU. I was beginning to feel really stupid not knowing this person.

She was an American author, and extremely successful here. I think the common pattern among most of the LJ fans who haven't heard of her is that you're not American.

I do feel that everyone should read A Swiftly Tilting Planet, but I'm biased in the matter.

A Wrinkle in Time was such an important book for me as a kid; I have a hard time imagining that people haven't read it. It's as though you just told me you've never seen Star Wars. So I think you and your lady should put aside your misgivings and read it. It's not long, and it is so very very strange and weird and beautiful. Or I suppose you could go straight for the biblical child porn of Many Waters, if that's more your speed.
