Yesterday I found myself on an Arnos Grove train without a seat and with a desire to be somewhere else. So on a whim I got out at Piccadilly Circus with the intention of popping into Tower Records Virgin Megastore and purchasing the
Children of Men DVD. Partly because it's an awesome movie, as I've mentioned
before, and partly because I was thinking that I could copy the special features for
dopplegl, because I'm nice like that.
But then I discovered that the DVD was £13.99 and the only special feature was a featurette. "Bugger that," say I, and return on my merry way.
My eye was caught, however, in the tube station by a series of advertisement-sized boards showing what appeared to be a series of large comic strips. So being me, I stopped to have a read.
It turned out to be
Non-Savvy Non-Commuter, a short comic story by Asia Alfasi. It's a charming little semi-biographical story about a woman visiting a friend in London, and her experiences on the tube, both now and when she was younger. It drew me in and I wasn't able to leave the station until I'd read the entire story, celebrating London's colour and multiculturalism (what I've always loved about the city right there.)
Anyway, the strips have been uploaded to the internets by the artist
here, and I recommend you at least give it a go. The artwork alone is delightful.
Today I am at college, putting things together for teaching on Thursday (yay teaching) and with the intention of heading out to Paperchase to get some things to sort out the contents of the Ugly-Ass chest of drawers.
Except then found
this site, and I melted in shinylust. Because who doesn't want to spend upwards of £25 on a single box file? And afterall, I do have this cheque of Japan refund in my hand...
