I don't know if you've ever read it...but there's a point where the female lead in the book, in a nutshell, says she'd rather keep trying with her husband to conceive a baby she knows is going to die, instead of adopting a baby, because it wouldn't be real if they adopted.
And this is never addressed in text as being totally fucked up, or anything. The book carries on like that's totally justifiable, logical reasoning. And the character gets rewarded for her efforts. And I can't deal with it. It makes me so angry.
Maybe it's because I'm at a point in my life where having my own children is becoming a real concern, but I don't see that as an unusual sentiment, much less "totally fucked up". As I see it, that kind of behavior is just a byproduct of the nature of life itself, that living things strive to pass on their own genetics to the next generation.
So what is it about her actions that you think should not have been rewarded? Should women with a high risk of miscarriage not try to conceive? Do you see abortion as being wrong? Do you agree with the laws passed last year in Utah? Or are you just pro-adoption because there are unwanted children out there who need homes?
Sorry if I sound a little touchy on the subject, I actually just find this an interesting point, but I'm personally invested in it because I've been dealing with health issues over the last few weeks that are putting my ability to have my own children at risk, and it's a really frightening thing to both me and Jaqi.
I think I should clarify that in the context of this story, there are specific and, um, not applicable to real life reasons why every baby they try to have dies (Time-traveling is something genetic and uncontrollable, and when she gets pregnant, the fetus/baby time travels out of her womb and dies. Like...every time. Also, the husband is really opposed to continuing trying to conceive when that is the inevitable result, and she totally bulldozes over his feelings on it

I am COMPLETELY with you on the whole people driving under the speed limit. I usually drive 5 mph over the speed limit (>.<;) so to pull up behind someone who drives under the limit? Yeah, totally pisses me off too. Lol
I am totally and completely in that same boat. I know I'm a bit of a fast driver, but...there's no reason not to go the speed limit unless it's dangerous to.
I don't interact with music majors a lot...but I can see how they could be bad. Film majors are just more pretentiously know-it-all than fine arts majors.
