writer question!

I'm bored and just got done wrestling with Scrivener, so I thought I'd throw this one out again: what do you use to write? Notepad? Word? Gdocs? Do you, gasp, write everything out longhand????

I used Gdocs for the longest time, got fed-up with the new format, switched briefly to My Writing Spot, but was disappointed by the limitations of the ( Read more... )

I write out outlines, major scene points, and plot things on paper, yeah. Not in longhand, though, as I have trouble caring too hard about cursive and mostly write in abbreviations in print. Then I write the story itself in Pages, the Mac equivalent of Word.

I still mainly write by hand. When I write on/type things up on the computer, I just use TextEdit because it never suddenly quits on me (MICROSOFT WORD), but I tend to copy things into Word to edit them.

For the most part I use Word, since I'm faster typing than by hand. The version I've got saves backup versions in case of crashing, which is also a big help to me when my laptop's case needs cleaning and overheats easily.

I tried Scrivener! It was pretty darn cool but did SO MANY THINGS that it started irritating me. I didn't really need all those things.

Anyway! I've been using Notepad++ lately. I got it for computer programming (which it's pretty much meant for since it has lots and lots of helpful color coding features for that), but I like the tabs! And I can change the foreground/background colors. I was using Rough Draft which is also minimal and has tabs but I've started preferring light text/dark bg for writing and I couldn't do that there! So NP++ was pretty much the ticket.

I do my plotting and notes in either my dreamwidth or in Tomboy Notes which is pretty much my most favorite program ever. Which I suppose is best described sort of like post-its but interconnected post-its. Or it might actually be better described as wiki software but much simpler? I find it's a little difficult to describe.
