Couldn't sleep last night.  My mind kept getting bugged, latching onto something and fretting about it, turning it over and over, fingering it.  A whole series of problems came to me as if to be solved.  I fell into half-sleep with just about 3 hours till the alarm dragon spat.

Shucks, Bub ... I'm lucky to look living the way I've had trouble crawling out of bed to haul my ass here lately. But, thanks all the same. :)

I am basically a reference librarian -- field reference questions, do ordering, make displays -- that have to do with Humanities subject area. I can't say that I am a librarian though, since my degrees are in literature, not library science. What I generally cover is American and British lit, philosophy, non-Christian religion, grammar and writing, and film history/theory/criticism.

Recently, though, our system has made a jump into corporate mindset and we have become much more like a book mall, and my position should now be called Humanities Fetch-It.

You studying art history, is that right?

See? Now THAT sounds interesting, like something you could sink your teeth into. You looking to teach? Curate?

Apply. If you get it you get it. IF you don't you don't. By not applying you don't ensure that your friend will get the job, merely that you won't get it either. The tie thing might be a pain in the butt.

Man ... Thanks. That makes so much sense, of course. I think I was trying to half the baby. I've had to wear ties and coats before; I just load up at the thrift store, get everything dry cleaned, and look antiquarian. I almost enjoy it ... maybe even the throat stricture a bit ... .

Thanks again for the sense! Going to get an app after lunch ... .

my pleasure. I hope things work out well for you. I'll have to stop by the library sometime. I take my boy to the White Station branch. I got a card when I first moved to Memphis but I haven't taken anything out in years. The last time I went to the library it was on Peabody. I use to live in the Gilmore on Madison and Mclean. I wonder if I have any late fees or unreturned books. I'll have to check that.
