Couldn't sleep last night. My mind kept getting bugged, latching onto something and fretting about it, turning it over and over, fingering it. A whole series of problems came to me as if to be solved. I fell into half-sleep with just about 3 hours till the alarm dragon spat.

Have been wondering lately about applying for a new position at the library. Right now, I am a Humanities Specialist librarian at the main branch of the public library. I've been in this position four years. There is an opening coming up in Staff Development for a Non-Technical Trainer, someone who does the majority of in-house training that has nothing to do with computers -- customer service, meeting planning, stress management, etc.
Pros
- I could get back into teaching, which I miss quite a bit, and have a lot of experience at.
- I would have to teach customer service but not actually do it any longer. (Chris Cross'll make you ...)
- I would have a generally more regular schedule.
- It would be a transfer to a department of three as opposed to twelve.
- I would be given a lot more independence over my daily work.
Cons
- A friend of mine desperately wants the job and has been unjustly overlooked for several promotions already. (This is the primary quandary.)
- It would be a lateral move in terms of pay and title.
- I would most likely be required to start wearing a tie.
- It's off the traditional path of advancement. (Wait! I think this is a Pro.)
- I would go from working with a queen and some spunky ladies to, most likely, two backslapping men.
I guess I have to make a decision soon, though, since call for applications will be over soon.
