Paper Periodically: Textual Ellipses

About ten years ago, I used to subscribe to several magazines.  I used to love coming home and finding one in the mail.  I'd settle in, put my few busy-nesses behind me, make coffee or tea, settle into a chair under lamp or window, and dive into what the editors threw at me for an hour or so.

I miss it.  And am considering subscribing again.  Here ( Read more... )

Utne's been a long-time read for me. I also love Mother Jones, & have a close friend who contributes to them on a regular basis. Have always meant to check out The Sun - you'd think after living in the Triangle for 11 years, I would have.

A culturally specific read, but a hysterically one, is Heeb Magazine. The first issue had a centerfold, "Joe Lieberman is a Dickhead." Plus the bubbye fashion spread. 'Nuff said.

Oh, man! You should check out The Sun! It was the one I most looked forward to when I was reading more magazines. May have been purely personal taste, too.

You may also be interested in looking at Southern Exposure for lefty Southern political issues/initiatives.

I also liked The Utne Reader when I got it, and I remember getting subscription offers from The Sun, and those little brochures alone looked really cool.

Another one I think you'd really get into is Adbusters. I'm pretty sure they still print, but you should definitely check out their website (adbusters.org) in the meantime to get an idea of what they do.

Hey, look!: I'm responding! ;)

Just thought of something: Maybe we can get in a serial sharing program. I'd be more than happy to pass my Suns on to you when I'm finished, if you want. :) Little roving serials library.

Yes, that would be awesome! I even stuck a photo/quote page from the one of the subscription offers on my fridge for a while.

Have you considered Mad? That Don Martin's a scream. ;)
