some people are freakish freaks

A couple of hours ago, I exited Trader Joe's to find a note on my car enjoining me to "Learn To Park!"

I remind you that I drive a Mini Cooper.  I usually park it in my hip pocket.

In this case, I had parked it in front of TJ's, nose in, in a space about the size of a football field.  While my parking angle may have been 92º or even 93º, I certainly ( Read more... )

Cheese curds? At TJ's? Yes please. :-D

As to the beef broth, I'd say either make a tempered slurry of cornstarch, or make a roux out of flour and butter. Probably the roux would work better than the cornstarch, from what I know.

(But I could be wrong!)

The roux would definitely be more caloriffic, and therefore more in keeping with the spirit of the whole affair. :D

My biggest problem with cheese curds in Pennsylvania is that they must be pasteurized by law (so I am told by our local-farmers-market-cheese-guy). I haven't been able to find anything that even compares to the amazing, amazing, amazing cheese curds I had at the farmers market in Madison, WI. Sill pasteurization.

Yeah, these are pasteurized. I don't know that I've ever had unpasteurized ones, and they'll work for my purposes, but it would be nice to be able to find the fresh ones if that's what you like ( ... )

That was a super excellent amount of information. I think I'll try asking around and maybe post a "wanted" on craigslist. And I should get around to taking that darn cheese making class that is held a few towns over.

Trader Joe's needs to sacrifice a few parking spots and stripe their lots more realistically, especially given how much of their target demographic still hasn't junked their monster SUVs (with single car seat installed). I'm sure Trophy Mom wrote that in a fit of pique when she found she couldn't open her back door *all the way* and had to work herself into a light mist of perspiration to wrangle little Cameron in and strap him down.

(You have to sympathize though -- it's been hard since the hubby had to take that golden parachute, and the nanny now only comes 3 days a week...)

In my continuing adventures through The Land Of Win, TJ's now is regularly carrying "Wisconsin Cheese Curds" in their cheese case.

In my opinion, these are close enough for government work to Québec cheese curds.
