Hee. The thing that's bothering me the most about the show (I know, there's only one?) is that Jason has yet to seem like anyone other than Logan to me. I'm really not getting the "ancient vampire" vibe from him. I'd hate to think that he can only play one part. Convince me that this is just a fault of the writing/directing.
I think it's that I expect something from Jason, while the bar for everything else in the show is set so low to be non-existent. I've been watching it in much the same way as I way Smallville, by regularly turning my brain off.
More people are tuning in for Moonlight than ever did for Buffy or Angel. Such is the benefit of being on one of the major networks. Which I continue to not understand, btw.
That's something that's bothering me a lot too. I take comfort from having seen Black Cadillac which, whilst not a stunning piece of work, at least featured him playing a truly different character. To me, in this crap, he's Logan Echolls Mk.II, which, to be fair, seems to be what Joel Silver wanted him to be. So I hold out hope that he's not a one-trick-pony, but he needs to get working on something else soon or that hope is going to fade away.
Convince me that this is just a fault of the writing/directing.Easily-ish. The show is awful and it's hard to believe that there's any strong guiding hand that has a clue anywhere. The romance is forced and quickening despite absolutely no effort made to earn it. We have no characterisation on why Mick and Beth are have so passionately fallen for each other outside the one that smacks of paedophilia. That's the focus and Jason's character is pretty much meaningless except to make the odd quippy remark

I'm not sure, to be honest. Did anyone ever do an analysis of working out what the Buffy figures would have been if expanded to reflect equivalent access? You know, if x% of people who have all stations, including the WB, are watching, then y% would be watching if everyone could access the WB? My feeling is that the figures were still comparatively low, but it's gut feel, not informed opinion. I strongly suspect that if I replaced "tuning in" with "watching," the state of affairs would be reversed, based on strong DVD sales which I don't expect to be duplicated by Moonlight.
Oh, man, do I ever love you for that recap and it's hilarity. So I assume Sophia Myles isn't actually the badly lit subpar actress that Beth is making her appear to be? Jason is so freaking lucky I adore him so much or I wouldn't have watched beyond the cheesetastic pilot. I feel loyalty towards the man that took time out to call me on the phone because my friend asked. I'm nuts, I know. I'd be angry at myself as a student for writing scripts with as many holes as this show's staff gets paid to do, and yet, I watch.
It HURTS that this show gets higher numbers than Buffy and Angel. It really does. On the one hand I blame it on the fact that Moonlight's on a major network, on the other... would Buffy have lasted long enough to bring us Angel if it had been on a major network given the climate of TV at the time? Buffy sort of paved the way for a lot of the supernatural themed shows that followed it, especially on the WB.
I've seen Sophia in other stuff and she's been fine. I can only think that the effort to keep up the accent is draining her talents. I don't really blame her that much because I think the character is all wrong. What is Beth? There is nothing about the character that makes sense to me.
I'm only watching for JD but my heart breaks a little every time I see him in this. It's making him seem one-note and overrated coming off a critical hit. It's a shame.
Good to know. I really need to get back to watching more British TV. I watched so much British and Aussie TV as a child and I don't watch any now... it's sad. Maybe that's it, the accent thing. I'd almost prefer her not have to cover it... but I have a thing for accents. You're right... the character and her motivations are about as clear as mud. it's one of those things that make me wonder how bad things were BEFORE the retool and how the hell this show got on the air in the first place, you know?
It IS a shame. I complained about some of the material he was being given last year... which looks brilliant in comparison despite being inconsistant from one week to the next at certain points. I feel horrible for him, because if the show continues for a while, he's sort of locked in.

Moonlight is on CBS. Buffy and Angel were on the WB. That's gotta mean something, right?

You can tell he'd rather be in Fresno.
Wouldn't we all?

This is why you should love me. I'm sacrificing my taste and sanity to save you the trouble.

You know, I'd rather be in charge of CBS and able to cancel this drek. Then I'd open the spot for shorts from independent film-makers.
