I almost wish there was blood to smear on the mirrors.

[A long pause]

Apologies, T'Pol.For the first time in a long time, I can say that I have never really encountered anything like that before here. Nor do I wish to again. It is rare that the things that happen here are...surprising ( Read more... )

[Rex was sitting on one of Iago's chairs, watching him make the bed.]

Everybody assumes the Admiral will take care of everything, that's why. [He frowned.] It's not your own failing.

[Iago finished the corner and smoothed his hand over the side, making sure that he got rid of any wrinkles.]

I never said it was. [Next would be the quilt. He picked it up off the floor and spread it out over the bed. He was...very meticulous about this ritual. Anything that dealt with organization, really.]

And the Admiral usually does take care of it.

[And that was why Rex sat back and watched. He was anal retentive about order in his own room and workspace, but he wasn't about to touch Iago's with how fussy the other man got about it.]

Then maybe the wardens should establish some new failsafes for the likelihood that he can't or won't take care of it.

[And Iago didn't ask for help. This was soothing in its own way.]

Oh, I'm certain that they will. I'm equally certain that they won't follow through with it unless someone takes control of it. These people claim that they want equality, but they really mean that they want someone to lead them and tell them what to do because they can't make decisions on their own.

[He finished the quilt and neatly folded back the top, placing the pillows on the sheet. It would be ready for whenever they used it. But for now, he walked to the chair Rex was in and put a hand on his shoulder.] But I'm sure you could have guessed that.

Because most people would.

It was just a more dramatic version of the black-out.
