I never said it was. [Next would be the quilt. He picked it up off the floor and spread it out over the bed. He was...very meticulous about this ritual. Anything that dealt with organization, really.]

And the Admiral usually does take care of it.

Then maybe the wardens should establish some new failsafes for the likelihood that he can't or won't take care of it.

Oh, I'm certain that they will. I'm equally certain that they won't follow through with it unless someone takes control of it. These people claim that they want equality, but they really mean that they want someone to lead them and tell them what to do because they can't make decisions on their own.

That sounds like them. Hierarchies are... natural, really. They always develop, even in supposedly egalitarian societies. The Barge is certainly no different.

[Rex took Iago's hand and stroked his fingers over it lightly.]

Nothing happened. [He shrugged.] At least not where I was. I wasn't hurt.

I was more worried about everything else happening. There wasn't much I could get into. You were in more...interesting places than me.

I was stuck with Hoffman. [He snorted.] It wasn't all that interesting. [He was quiet for a moment.] I feel like all I can do in a crisis is play medic, like it's my only... acceptable skill.

No. He was medicated most of the time.

[Rex shrugged a little.] It's always what's needed most. I'm a better engineer and programmer than physician. I could have reprogrammed the Barge, [MAYBE] if given the opportunity to help.
