Folks who have seen WatchmenIs the movie as brutally, graphically, overwhelmingly violent as people on the internet are bragging and / or complaining it is? I want to see it, but I really don't want to subject myself to that (I'm actually more averse to brutality than graphicness ( Read more... )

I think Pulp Fiction was substantially more brutally graphic. I am not sure what everyone is making a big deal about. There's a lot of implied or threatened violence but not a lot of actual gore. I was not disturbed or uncomfortable at any point, though I did see some people in the theater wince sometimes.

It was a really, really good movie, definitely worth seeing in theaters. I think it's worth it even if there's a bit of uncomfortable brutality.

The thing about the violence is that there are huge elephant sized hints dropped before things happen so if you're a wuss like me you can cover your eyes and peek through your fingers. Unrelated Example: Man is cornered in dark alleyway by big bad guys. He looks around for something to defend himself with. Cut to closeup shot of a can of aquanet behind a trash can. Guy grabs the can, whips out a lighter and roasts the baddies.

Admittedly I have a low threshold for gore and violence so I had my face covered a number of times. There are a few moments where I thought "they're not really going to show this... surely they're going to cut to a different camera angle... holy crap they just did that."

Overall I really enjoyed the movie since I'm not ashamed to cover my eyes at parts that creep me out. It's super gritty and not your pretty heroic comic. I figure if a wuss like me can make it through and still enjoy the movie anyone can.

it was kinda gory at parts, I wish I'd finished the comic book, or maybe I don't. I was disappointed with the movie, but maybe went in with the wrong attitude as I'd heard that Alan Moore wouldn't associate his name with it and I took that as a bad sign...
