Folks who have seen WatchmenIs the movie as brutally, graphically, overwhelmingly violent as people on the internet are bragging and / or complaining it is? I want to see it, but I really don't want to subject myself to that (I'm actually more averse to brutality than graphicness ( Read more... )

I thought it was more violent than it needed to be, not because I'm opposed to violence but because it seemed like someone was thinking "we haven't cut anybody's arms off on camera for a while. Come on guys, this is supposed to be dark!" It was a little over intentional.

It was very graphically violent in a number of places, but as someone said above, they were telegraphed well, which meant that I could miss most of it by covering or averting my eyes. But yes, snapped and protruding bones from flesh, cleavers in the head, a brutally beaten (and showing it) woman during a rape scene, dismemberment, etc.

It's part of showing just how f-ed up these folks are, so I get it, but I'm glad I didn't watch those parts. Still enjoyed hte heck out of the rest of it.

Wow. I must be really desensitized if none of that stuff registered as being particularly violent. Maybe it just didn't seem much more violent to me than other movies? I am baffled.

Then again, pretty much the only thing that makes me cringe in movies is needles and direct shots of guts. I can't handle that.

Now I'm wondering which scene that is... I can think of five sex scenes in the book, four pictures, one implied, two and a half of which could be considered superhero sex, and all of which would be pretty seriously inappropriate for various reasons (unless you don't listen to the lyrics and consider it a happy song).

I think I know the one you mean, but are you implying that there are some relationships in watchmen that aren't very complex?

There was a week or so in my impressionable young adulthood when everything that happened to me seemed like it was based on something in Watchmen. This includes one of the sex scenes -- fortunately, one of the minority that ended happily). So anyway, I remember it well.
