In which I ramble about Christmas, &c...

Dec 01, 2006 14:21

First of all, Happy December! ;) I can't believe it's December already. I love this time of year, with all the aniticipation of Christmas, and the festive music and decorations... It's almost sad when Christmas comes, because then it's all over. If you know what I mean. ( &c. )

television: bbc, journal, journal: christmas, music, journal: daycare, music: nickel creek

Where abouts is this Bible school? That'd be good for you to come over to England!

Christmas adverts generally make me really mad as well - you're right, they're so commercial. A good friend of mine who isn't a Christian and classes herself as an Atheist (but she goes to church once a year which I find very intriguing - she's obviously searching for something) says she wishes it was still a Christian festival and not so much 'buy me expensive stuff'. And I can't help but agree with her. It makes me so sad.

That said, I'm a little crazy about the Christmas Coca-Cola adverts. I've only seen this year's once though.

I'm praying that, this year, Jane Eyre wins all the awards :D At least Toby Stephens because I feel that this was his magnum opus.

I love how three of the five 'best moments' of 2004 were from North and South. I can never chose those things though!

The school is pretty far north - I think it's kind of between the Scottish border and Manchester. I'd have to look at a map, though. You're farther north too, right? Or at least more north than I usually think of. (i.e. north of London...) I know someone who lives in southern England, though I can't remember the name of the place.

It is sad how commercial Christmas is. Of course, some commercials aren't too bad.

I hope Jane Eyre wins a lot! Though I'm also partial to Robin Hood. :P I hope Ruth Wilson wins for best actress, too.

Yay, N&S! - it's hard to choose a favourite moment from all the 2006 programmes/season. (Ha, I said programmes - or is it programs? TV shows.)

I live up North, yeah. Between Manchester and the Scottish borders, at any rate. I'm closer to Manchester though - north east of there.

Yeah, Ruth was actually really really good. I wasn't so sure at first but she was the perfect Jane in a way.

I need North and South on DVD so bad! Hahah.

The Advent Tea sounds neat! The church I've been going to doesn't do anything for Advent. In fact, last year when I asked about it nobody except the pastor even knew what Advent was! But my mom lent me an Advent book so I'm going to do it on my own.

I'll be praying for you with your decision about England.

My goodness, no one knew about Advent? We always have the lighting of the advent candles on the Sundays leading up to Christmas. :) Well almost - I was disappointed when we didn't do it last year.

Thank you for your prayers!

Ooo I didn't know BBC has a voting thinger =).

So you want to go to Bible School? Have you looked into Youth With A Mission (YWAM)? I ask because my brother Noah has taken two semesters through them and REALLY liked it. They have schools all over the world, Noah went to one in Hong Kong and one in Bangkok.

Yep, BBC has a "best of" contest for each year. I can't wait to see this year's results. :)

That looks interesting! I've wanted to go to England badly for awhile now, and this looks like a great opportunity. Bible school also looks good instead of wasting time on courses I don't like... still looking into it all a lot!

I really hope you're able to go to England! I agree with this: I know it has to be all God, and I want to make sure I'm not going for the wrong reasons, because if it's not supposed to happen, going there could be really bad. But I think it's such a great opportunity to grow. It's exactly what I feel about studying overseas. I'm really hoping to be able to go to Egypt next spring for a Christian political studies program there, but I'm also worried that I'm doing it for the wrong reasons. I need to sit down and really pray about it to make sure this is what God wants me to do. The upside is, if God wants me to go, I figure he will work out the financing of it! At this point I have no idea how I could afford to go, but I think if I'm supposed to go, I'll be able to get a loan or my parents will be able to afford it or something. I guess I'll see. And I'll pray for your wisdom in deciding about England!

Thank you! I appreciate your prayers. :) I'll be praying for you, too, about Egypt - that sounds really exciting!
