Software: I can't afford $399 for Lightstudio Beta 2.0 etc. If I ever make any real money with photography I'll probably buy a copy (but only if it's a reasonable price). Thusly, those who pirate software generally wouldn't buy it in the first place. Those who can tend to do so. Who told you famous means rich, every time all the time? Because they're either deluded, lying, or very ignorant.

I know that all too well. I've seen some musical artists filing for bankruptcy even as their songs hit number one on the charts.

Then why do you quote someone who seems to think that famous means rich every time all the time?

If we could pirate and have it only hurt the agents/ad execs/promoters, instead of hurting the creators of whatever, I would have less of a problem with it. As is, everytime I see someone advocating piracy I think of the oil companies, who get tax breaks and pass them on to ONLY THEMSELVES. Plus there's the minor fact that I believe the creator(s) of a work should be the one(s) deciding whether and how to share a work.

I've been boycotting purchased music for two or three years now -- ever since the Sony/BMG Rootkit Fiasco where a huge corporation with tons of money decided it would be a great idea to pursue pirates by hacking the computers belonging to those who were actually buying music from them. Makes sense, right? The Pirates were immune because they were not buying the CD's that were infected with their spiteware ( ... )

Very good points - I share some of the same thoughts on this as you do.
