Title: Collision Course
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica *cough*
Word count: 1000 on the nose
Rating: G. Squeaky clean.
Spoilers: Technically set near the end of S3. Wherever we are in the US broadcast land.
A/N:
- This has some "issues" but I'm too fond of the idea to let it stop me.
- I'll always have a fondness for the original series. There's a music vid on SciFi.com called
A New Crew In Town which says it all. And it's frakkin hysterical.
- For the
picfor1000 Challenge 5.
Prompt picture here Summary: "Get two Raptors in the air. I want a look at these 'Vipers'."

"Dradis contact, Admiral," called Hoshi.
"Identification?"
"It's.... sir, it shows as Vipers!"
"Is the CAP accounted for?"
"Yes, sir, they're nowhere near where those ships are."
"Get two Raptors in the air. I want a look at these 'Vipers'."

While he sometimes missed being in the CIC, Helo had to admit that getting to fly Raptors again made up for it. Today was a day both he and his wife were able to work together, he as her ECO while she piloted.
Technically they were not supposed to work together, but Lee had privately told them that he was more than willing to look over the rules in favor of their ability to work together well, as long as they could keep their marriage out of it. Still, the roll of the scheduling dice didn't allow this often.
They flew out to the coordinates that CIC had provided them, Racetrack and Bingo in the other Raptor. It wasn't a long flight, and as they got closer Helo couldn't believe what he was seeing. "Sharon, those look like our old Vipers! Could this- could it be some kind of Cylon trick?"
"It's possible," Sharon replied, sounding skeptical. "See if you can raise them on the comm."
Helo tried a few greetings on a few channels, but got nothing but static.
"Hmmm." Helo thought for a bit.
"Athena, Racetrack," came over their comm. "Are you guys getting this signal?"
"What signal, Racetrack? Helo tried to raise them but got nothing."
"Try a lower frequency, in the 50 band."
"The 50 band?" Helo was surprised, "Nobody uses that anymore."
"Well, try it, see what you get," Athena told him.
"Yes, boss," Helo replied with a grin, and started modifying the comm system to pick up the lower band.
"-ica. Can you hear us? Repeat, this is Strike Captain Apollo from the Battlestar Galactica. Can you hear us?"
Helo and Sharon just stared at each other.
-
"Sir," Hoshi said, sounding panicky, "they say they're from the Galactica."
"Well, that is possible," came a grumble from Tigh, "We've lost enough Vipers that a couple of pilots could have survived."
"But, sir... this pilot... he claims he's Apollo!"
Tigh and Adama shared a look. It wasn't a good look.
"Athena, Galactica Actual. You and Racetrack, bring them in."
-
Lee ran into Kara on his way down to the flight deck. "Big hurry? What's up, Lee?"
"Come along, Kara," Lee suggested, "You can meet my double."
"Oh, so now you're a Cylon?" Kara noted Lee was really hustling. Whatever had him this worked up was probably worth looking into herself.
"Right, Kara. Because all my memories of my mythical father are fake."
Kara choked out a laugh and followed Lee down to the deck.
-
"Wow, would you look at these. They're in worse shape than any old Mark IIs on-board."
"What do you think, Chief? Do you think they're ours?"
"I dunno, Major. I'd have to look at them much closer."
Lee, Kara and Tyrol watched the flight crews help the two pilots out of the Vipers. Their helmets were weird, made out of some golden material, and shaped funny.
The two men stood near their ships. One had dark hair and piercing eyes with wariness burned into them. The other's hair was lighter and his mood seemed to be torn between amusement and worry.
Lee took a deep breath, then went over to greet the two men.
"On behalf of the Admiral, welcome aboard."
The dark-haired man eyed him warily. "Thank you. I am Strike Captain Apollo, from the Battlestar Galactica. And you are?"
"Major Lee Adama, CAG for the ship you're on. Which is the Battlestar Galactica." Lee's tone implied that the other man was either nuts or an idiot.
"Uh, Apollo? What the hell?" said the other stranger.
"I don't know, Starbuck, but I intend to find out," the man calling himself Apollo told him.
"Wait- Starbuck??" Kara cried.
Lee groaned. Belatedly he realized He should have thought twice before inviting Kara along.
"Yes, ma'am, at your service," he replied, with a bow.
"Your name is Starbuck," she said, in that mocking tone of hers. "Just Starbuck?"
"That's me."
"Don't you have another name?"
"Huh?"
"Charming the ladies as usual, Bucko?" the other "Apollo" said. Lee looked at Kara and mouthed, "Bucko?!" Kara just shrugged.
Lee sighed. "Ok, let's go. We're to escort our guests to the Admiral."
-
They were in the Admiral's quarters. President Roslin was there, and their two visitors. Kara had been dismissed, but Karl and Sharon were there. Adama had asked Sharon to keep an eye out for anything that might mean the Cylons were involved.
The room was dimly lit. A lamp on the Admiral's desk lit one corner, and three candles in a glass box, a present from Lee's mother, were lit on the other side of the room. The group talked quietly and calmly.
"It was just a routine patrol," the man called Apollo was explaining, "But somehow... we got very lost."
"Forgive me, ma'am," said the other, "but, you said you're the President of the Colonies?"
"That's right," said Roslin.
"If you don't mind me asking, um, what happened to President Adar?"
Roslin and the Admiral exchanged glances. With her usual diplomacy, she answered, "He was killed in the attack on the Colonies. I was, well, down in the line of succession, but the job fell to me."
Lee realized that the other... Apollo... was staring at him. "What?" he asked.
"You're... you're his son, right?"
"Uh, yeah. I'm Lee Adama. The Admiral is my father, William Adama. We don't usually have family on the same ship but, well..."
"Adama," the other Apollo said, glancing for a moment at the other Starbuck. "That's my father's name."
"Starbuck" let out a brief laugh. "Sure, Apollo. And next the Major here will tell you all about his brother, Zak, and his sister, Athena."
The others all gasped, and the color drained from "Starbuck" as he said, "Oh, frak."

LATE NOTE: When I posted this, I had somehow remembered that, in BSG-TOS, Adar was alive and running the council. Wrong! He died in the attacks, on the Atlantia! Adama is in charge of the council in TOS.
Apologies.
