Not Comprehensive At All: some Yuletide recs

1. The only BARE fic on there: Someday my prince will come, Peter POV. Pretty cute, although I think better use could've been used of the fairytale motif: if the story used 'hero' instead of prince, for example. phrasemuffin, you might like this ( Read more... )

yuletide, fandom: l. m. montgomery, fandom: arthurian, fandom: bare, medieval everything, these things are aesthetically valid

I love Yultide. I stayed up till 3am last night because of Yultide. It was totally worth it.

Also, I really want to know what you have written! I don't think I commented at the time, but the couple of Narnia fics I've read of yours were lovely (and you know how wary I am of Narnia fic), and thinky gender stuff is always good, so now I'm all curious!

Oooh what Narnia fics of mine did you read? TELL ME.

Thinky gender stuff is mad fun. Want to play Guess What Inept Wrote? It's for a fandom I've written before, it's not BBC Merlin or Narnia, and it's Excessively Thinky.

On the other hand, I don't think it bears any of the really idiosyncratic hallmarks of my writing: it's not in my Special Second Person, it's not all convoluted and understated in its thinky gender stuff... it doesn't have Vast Amounts Of Who Put What Where details or a two-thousand word leadup to porn. It doesn't make use of religious or medieval references. SO PERHAPS IT IS ENTIRELY GENERIC. Who knows?

Haha, um, mostly just drabbles here and there. The most recent was "Ridiculous, Undignified, and Illadvised". The first paragragh made it pretty hard to resist (subjected to lectures about his ‘difficult stage of life’: lectures which emphasised the importance of self-restraint and good clean air, had me giggling. It was so jolly British!).

I have every intention of having closer look at your stuff at some point (particularily that long Dawn Treader one, because power struggles = yay), because, dude, it's you. I have always expected mad and brilliant things, especially now given your list of the idiosyncratic hallmarks of your writing has kind of made me fall in love with you a bit.

So, wait. I'm looking for an entirely generic fic, in a fandom I've possibly never read before, amongst hundreds of fics for all sorts of fandoms, that carries almost no obvious signs it was written by you.

I may need some time.

Ridiculous, Undignified, Etc was FUN. So much FUN!

Hehe my major Yuletide fic is pretty characteristic- and bloody excellent if you ask me- but I'm not sure that you'd notice that if you don't know my writing very well.

You should be able to pick the treat I wrote, though. It screams INEPT. And also HIGHLY. And NAKED PHILOLOGIST. And Amy Brown, B.A., Hons Class 1, Medieval Studies. And prety much any other identity under which I operate.

It's an umbrella category in the archive for people who request and write retellings of traditional fairy tales :D

Yuletide! It's so awesome. I'm participating next year, if I can get enough practise in writing non-HP stuff first.

I read an awesome Canterbury Tales fic, and thought that maybe it was written by you - but if not, you should go reading it. It's very funny and clever.

I can tell you that definitely wasn't me - both my fics were for fandoms I'd written before, and I haven't even READ the Canterbury Tales. :D
