I know exactly what you mean. There are two bands that I love that I didn't discover until a few years ago, and sadly, neither one is still recording. The are Catherine Wheel and Nudeswirl.

In recent years, I think I've mellowed and gotten impressed by a whole different range of stuff than I used to. But more recently I really have been impressed by Iron and Wine, a guitarist named Andy Mckee, and by Air.

Then of course there is the combination of asshatery and sublime honesty that is Ween. And the polished punkish introspection that is Hoobastank.

If you like female vocalists then you might like Jesca Hoop. "Big Fish" off her first EP (video on Youtube) and pretty much all of her album.

I caught Poi Dog Pondering at the end of thier band-life -- I got to see them twice. But I still miss them and the lead singer, Frank (sigh). I haven't found any good tunes lately, so I am watching your comments closely!!!
