Interesting - I followed your link over here from my lj . . . it sounds like I almost want to do the opposite. I have a fair amount of experience in the regular work world and have been working traditional and somtimes corporate jobs since I was about 14. Now I want to move sort of sideways away from that into more non-traditional employement ;)

OK, but the principal is the same. The problem is simply being a "career changer". Doesn't matter if the original career was being a stripper or an accountant.

I assume that you want to move into an occupation you have some interest in and possibly have done something with [as a volunteer for instance?]. Even if the answer is "No", you then must know quite a bit about your new field, [& if the answer to THAT is still "No", then I must ask "are you sure you know what you are doing?"].

So look at all your skills and write down how YOU think you have a great deal to contribute to that field. And it may be that one thing you can contribute is you can bring a fresh eye or a new way of doing things BECAUSE you are coming in from a different career path.

The other thing is that technical skills are always in demand, [not the hot market of the "dot com" craze, but now everybody needs someone who knows about computers]So put it to them that you are a person who knows all about and loves their field because of X, Y and Z AS WELL AS ( ... )
