Regarding the flash fic competition, if i reproduce (or base it on) something i already have posted elsewhere, how will i prove i have not plagiarised that stuff (in short how do i prove the initial post was mine?)?

Bard,

Interesting question. Let's see.

I'm assuming that this original is posted somewhere other than LJ, and hence the problem proving that your LJ id owns the post?

If the original is posted some place that we - the screening jury and the judges - are likely to see it, then perhaps you should remove it from there? The ability to remove the original would be one way to prove ownership. If the original is pointed out by someone later, post the results announcement, you could prove ownership by, say, posting a piece of text, from the original ID, that we give you that only you and we know.

How's that?

(Re-posting to eliminate typos from my earlier clumsy cut&paste.)

aloksharma,

Since we're allowing multiple submissions, it is conceivable that one excellent, prolific writer could get all her stories into contention for prizes. And if she wins more than one of the prizes on offer, good for her! (Remember, the judging process is completely anonymous, so the judges will not be able to tell if different stories are by the same person.)

In a word, yes. Submit as many stories as you like. Every story will be judged only on its own merits.

Oh yes. I checked with our contest admin, and there are four entries associated with you LJ username, so you do not have to resubmit your story.

Multiple entries from the same person are permitted, as the rules very clearly say.

The page also says: "Not more than 500 words."

Have you checked your spam folder? It could happen that the automated mail landed up there.

Who owns the copyright for the stories submitted? I read that you could use these stories in any book, I want to know does that mean the writer loses control over the story and cannot get it published anywhere?

The authors retain ownership of their stories. There may be a special compilation book (not "any" book) that LJ and Caferati (and perhaps a third party) will bring out post the contest. If this works out, the short-listed authors will be informed well in advance and asked not to submit the selected stories elsewhere for a fixed period of time, after which they will be free to do whatever they like with their stories.
