Seriously, AT&T - WTF?

Feb 25, 2008 17:04

So a couple of months ago I switched over to AT&T, because of my severe lust for the iPhone. However, in the process it meant giving up T-Mobile, a carrier I loved dearly, and who treated me wonderfully, both in coverage and service ( Read more... )

Yeah, sadly my lust overtook my sensibilities. And in all honesty, I don't *regret* the decision, but I do wish that AT&T would take some of the ass-loads of money that they're sitting on and actually provide a service worth having.

And for months it actually wasn't bad service - I was happy until recently. And then it just started sucking like never before.

My roommate and her family actually have nothing bad to say about AT&T, and they've been with a bunch of different companies. YMMV.

This is the first time I've really had cause to complain. I still would rather be on T-Mobile, but honestly, I've less love for Verizon and Sprint than I do for AT&T, so I'd probably be on AT&T anyway, if I wasn't on T-Mobile.

But yeah, it hasn't been bad until recently, I just worry that it's going to stay this way instead of getting better again.

Fortunately my girlfriend is on AT&T as well, so the free minutes to her more than make up for everything.

Its this and the that I just learned that the iPhone will not accept incoming picture texts (seriously wtf) is why I keep telling myself that I dont want an iPhone. Also fake gps.

Of course I still really want one...

But im gona hold out for the Gphone...maybe...

Yeah, the fake GPS isn't as good as real GPS, but it's still neat. And makes up for the lack of GPS.

As for incoming picture texts... eh. I really could care less.

I gave in on mine, and I'm chained to it for 2 years, but after that, I'll probably go with a gPhone and switch back to T-Mobile, if she'll have me back.

GPS and picture text are not real reasons to not want it, just the excuses that I keep telling myself why I dont want it.

Oh, I know. I'm well aware of the "well, but it's not PERFECT, just more so than everything else" arguement.

And like I said, I love it. It's absolutely wonderful as a phone/device. It's just such a shame that the service it's chained to sucks so much ass.

I always hated that the service would be dead in my kitchen but full bars in my driveway. They have, however, proven to improve coverage. I was with AT&T, then they changed the name, then back to AT&T. Each change provided some drops. Maybe they are thinking about calling themselves cingular again.

I know people who had that complaint about T-Mobile. That was the big drawing point for Verizon/Sprint for a long while, but that's slowly becoming a non issue, except out in the boonies.

Of course, neither T-Mobile or AT&T have a full 3G network either (not that I care, with my 2.5g iPhone.) So that's the current draw for the CDMA networks. Still, I prefer to be on the global standard.

This is one of the major reasons I've stuck with Verizon. I've been with them for almost 8 years now, living in six different locations in three states, and can count the number of dropped calls I've had one one hand. The only place I've found where reception is a bit spotty is in my office, which to be fair is smack in the middle of the bottom floor of an 8 story solid concrete & brick building.

I have no major problems with at&t's service, but I live in the former bellsouth zone, where Cingular had better coverage than the other companies who figured we were hicks incapable of operating cellular devices.
