I don't think it's all that unusual these days not to be close with extended family - even grandparents! I certainly wouldn't invite mine if I were getting married. I'm sure if it were like it used to be, when a person would be born, grow-up, get married, and die all in the same town, then extended family would be a more important network but these days it just isn't so.

Look at it this way: anyone who DOES come will then be an unexpected and pleasant surprise!
