I didn't read the article, as I haven't played Dragon Age but have thought about doing so and didn't want to be spoiled, but the casual game Life Quest lets you marry either a man or a woman, regardless of the gender you choose. Plus you can have kids with them too (it's one of the life goals), though it really doesn't go into details of how you get those kids. You don't even have to pick your sexual orientation - you just flirt with either or both genders.

It's not the greatest game ever, but I think it's cool they included it in a casual game, a market that's very 'family friendly'and has certain content restrictions. Surprisingly, I didn't see much fuss about it, even though there are some very culturally conservative people in the Big Fish forums - most of the feedback was positive.

And that's when I realized: this relationship was doomed from the start, from my very first choice to inhabit a male player character. Even using mods or hacks would never change this crucial consequence of the story:

Alistair must have children, but I will never be able to provide him with one because I don't have a vagina.well, it's more than a vagina. you'd need a human noble vagina. the landsmeet in an alistair romance was interesting to me because it showed that love can't conquer politics, unless you're willing to be the mistress or run away from public life entirely. i like this darker aspect of relationships in the DA 'verse. being torn between love and responsibility makes for good drama. do you let the PCs feelings for alistair influence their political decision-making or not? i found it really satisfying from a RP perspective to romance him as a human noble fem but marry him to anora due to my character's ruling-class cynicism ( ... )
