Though I have always, always thought that Beck's daughter would have Beck and perhaps his wife wrapped around her finger, that she would be "daddy's little angel", hence the nickname I gave Jenna.

Yeah, that's the impression I get too. I guess it's because he's such a hard-ass at his job. I figure that the harder people are on the outside, the bigger their soft spot. Y'know, for balance.

True, he can be hard, but he's also very fair most of the time. I think there's a bit of a fine line with a character like Beck and say a character like Dr. Romano from ER (couldn't tell I watch TNT, could you? LOL)

I have to say part of the idea came from an interview that Esai Morales gave on Kids for Jericho. I believe Kelly has it on her website, Discovering Esai. He responded with such enthusiasm and kindness to the young girl interviewing him. It made me believe that it would definitely be an aspect that the actor and the character Beck would have in common.

Esai seems to be wonderful with kids.. his voice even changes when he talks to them. I can see the same thing with Beck too. That is a great way to use characteristics of the actor/character. Esai had said in interviews that there is always part of himself in all his characters. There has to be to a degree to make them believeable.

Great chapter!! I love that you are getting to the back story of Beck's wife. I love Heather's reactions to Carlos.

I hope you are feeling better!!

I have you to thank on posting that interview that Esai did for Kids for Jericho. When I heard the reason he gave for being so close to Heather was "that she reminded him of the love of his life", I thought "ok, this is good info. Perhaps he could be attracted to both of them because they both have similar character traits and/or backgrounds..."

I wanted to make Heather and Lisa look human here, as in I'm hoping not to put either one on a pedestal. I worry about doing the same thing with Beck and Carlos sometimes.

I love Heather's reactions to Carlos.
:) I'll read this to my friend occasionally to try to check for errors off of the rough draft. She likes the Heather/Carlos dynamic quite a bit too.

Thank you, I am feeling better. No more nasty side effects to deal with.

That is actually the interview that turned my way of thinking. I was a 100% Beck/Heather shipper until I heard Esai say that. Even though I still love to read fanfic about them I have sort of turned into a Beck/Mrs. Beck shipper. I have this whole plot in my head about his wife being held by Valente and hooking up with Hawkins when he was being held and getting back to Beck. One of these days I might have to write it down. Just another avenue to explore. :)

Well Beck is already on a pedestal for me *lol* but you are doing a wonderful job with all the characters.

So glad you are feeling better!

I could see how that interview could make a person debate about Heather and Beck being together. I'd like to believe that Beck could be lucky twice in his lifetime. Probably because I like Heather and can identify with her as opposed to Mrs Beck, who we know nothing about.

There is a story idea I've thought about with Mrs Beck though. Valente finds her (right after she's gotten her daughter off to a safe place), falls for her & keeps her with him under the threat that he'll kill Beck if she leaves. Mrs Beck dreams of leaving Valente, but doesn't dare go back to Beck for fear that he'll hate her for what has happened. I figure if I'm still entertaining the idea after this & a couple of other of stories I've neglected get finished, I might actually write it.

you are doing a wonderful job with all the charactersThanks for saying that. I've been worried about making Carlos into a Gary Stu and Beck into this sort of smoldering, brooding character when it comes to Heather. But I also get afraid that if I worry about anything too much ( ... )
