Not so much fly as plummet

When we had a new boiler put in the engineer took out the old copper hot water tank (and all the piping - perk of the job), leaving the bottom half of our airing cupboard with a gaping hole running the height of the house where the old boiler flue pipe runs. We had a cat go down among the drywall once. It was not pretty. And it wasn't even my house, I was staying with a friend while I looked for an apartment, and her basement had a sort of airing cupboard thing which was open at the top and...well, it's all very complicated, suffice it to say the cat went missing and we could hear her meowing under the dining room floor (!!!). Fortunately she was not declawed, and we managed to encourage her to climb back out with lumps of yummy smelling things. But it was rather tense for a bit!

Your engineer was conning you; it isn't a 'perk of the job' at all. We got £80 for ours.
