Sometimes I hate fanficrants. Sometimes I love them. Currently, that is the case. This shouldn't be that amusing, but it is. And it has convinced me to start writing Claire/Peter.

Yes, I am aware that it's incest. I'll also admit that I didn't start shipping them until after I knew they were related, and I generally dislike AUs or fics where they think ( Read more... )

I've sworn to myself that I will forever stay away from fanficrants. I'm a rather conservative person, and I learned all too quickly that I really had nothing to say that would make me welcome there. (But, angelgidget, if you're a conservative person, what in *blazes* are you doing operating an LJ at all? Sometimes I wonder...) If I go there to complain about a squick, I will not be welcome, because it is home to the people who *invent* those squicks. My other option is to go and complain about the grammar and punctuation of newbie writers, and that wears thin fast, as those sorts of complaints become a dime a dozen.

There is a temptation to visit though, because sometimes the posters are really clever and manage to elevate insults to an art, but then that increases the temptation to stick my own two cents in...which quickly becomes a case of open mouth, insert foot.

If you want to complain about a squick, I'd either make a disclaimer that says: This is my opinion and I have nothing against anyone who likes it, or...yeah. Basically that. Because otherwise, you're going to get a heck of a bunch of comments about "in before the mod tags" or "in before the wank".

Generally, I stay away from pairing/squick rants, myself. I'll rant on plots or characterization and other things that annoy me, but nothing that is going to offend a lot of people.

It's kind of sad, because there are times I want to rant on squicks or pairings or stuff myself (I might write just about everything/have a high tolerance, but even I feel like complaining about the abundance of slash in the DCU fandom sometimes or other things, depending on my mood), and while fanficrants should be a place to do that...it's not. Unless you're the epitome of democracy in your post, and even then, more likely than not you'll get jumped on.

You might want to check out ffrantsrants, which is a community that rants about fanficrantsAnyways, point of this: in general, if you ( ... )
