Genre: Crack
Rating/Warnings: PG, thar be swearing but not till the end

Gideon Prewett spent most of that Friday night chiding himself. Because of his inability to keep his own pretty mouth shut, a series of miscommunications now meant that he was stuck with an "acceptable" girl while his brother and the rest of the Auror-To-Be crew were out with the "outstandings"

This is why:

Gideon Prewett walks into the pub at the head of the pack, flashing his smile at every girl in the room. His hair is perfectly tousled, he knows this because he spent nearly an hour trying to make it look perfectly tousled.

He and his friends sit down at their usual table and he sits and chats with them, looking effortlessly casual. Eventually he is alone at the table when Frank had to leave because he forgot it was Alice's birthday the next day and he was completely without a gift for her, Fabian was dragged off to a game of billiards with a girl who hardly knew her way around a cue stick.

And so Gideon Prewett took out his mirror.

"Yes, I carry a mirror." He would say, often, to his brother. "I don't like having things in my teeth, and I get to look at myself, which, as we all know, my looks are a gift to humanity."

Fabian stopped telling Gideon that they were identical when they were thirteen.

And so quite completely by accident he ended up with this Acceptable. He didn't notice her sitting next to him as he was showering himself with compliments.

"You are so incredibly beautiful. Just breathtaking, really." Gideon says. "How do people let you out, you're just so painfully attractive."

This continues in all of the various forms for at least five minutes and it isn't until the extremely flattered Acceptable next to him giggles and asks "So are you going to buy me a drink or not?"

Vain or not, Gideon Prewett was also a gentleman. Wincing, with his head turned away from her, he then turns and through a pained smile says "Yeahhhh".

If he were to take out his mirror again later that night, it would have been to tell himself that he was a complete gobshite. A very handsome gobshite.
