.o0o.

It was a nice afternoon. Clear, cool and a little bit windy. The smell of sweets and coffee filled my nose as I was sitting down by a tiny table inside a coffee shop. Steams of a cup of coffee blurred my view as I sipped it down my throat slowly, very slowly, while I narrowed my eyes to see through the mist to observe a visible building from where I sat down.

“You might want to order more coffee?” A waiter said. I looked up to see her smiling at me, offering to pour my 3rd cup, but I refused. I couldn’t hold more caffeine in my system.

She put down my cake and left. So I took the fork and turned my attention back to the building.

I was so dead tired, and anxious. And full. But nothing interesting happened in the place I’d been observing. The old building looked idle and there was no movement since I first arrived. I needed to go in, but I didn’t know how without being noticed.

I’d been looking around the building. There was a back door, but it was guarded by not less than two scary guards. It was almost impossible to invade it and get out alive. Not mentioning that I was alone.

Yes, I was alone.

Where the hell were Kyu and Minnie?

Not knowing the situation was just making things worse. I could be reckless and barge in, but it wouldn’t do any difference. Well, maybe I would be dead, but the situation still wouldn’t change. They would still have Donghae.

“We will appreciated it if you come with us, Mr. Lee,”

I looked up to two Chinese men. I could beat them down if only they didn’t threaten me with the guns they were hiding inside their jackets. But I dared enough to ask. “And who you might be?”

One man snickered, “You were watching our head quarter just now. Our Boss is nice with guests, so he asked to see you.” He threw a note to my table and signaled me to stand up.

I was really screwed. The best thing to do now was to follow them to meet their Boss. So I stood up and followed them to the damn building.

Inside the front door were no less than 5 people standing by in a post as guards in the head quarter. They were all Chinese, as I expected. This was The Triad hideout. They searched for guns or any type of weapon on me first before allowing me to go further.

“Our Boss heard about your arrival, so he was really expecting you,” the same guy said, as he proceed to an elevator and signaled me to get in first. Two more people followed. The elevator was incredibly hot even if it was cold outside. Maybe it was just that I was freaking out to have four people with guns staying with me in a crowded tiny place and would kill me if I did a wrong move. I was too concentrated on not getting killed to even digest what the man told me. No more talk after that until the tiny moving room went ding and they escorted me out to a room with more guards in the entrance.

They opened the door for me to walk in. so I just did that.

The room was a large office room with soft couches and a fire place. The room was warm from the diffused heat from the burning wood in the fire place. In one side of the room was a man sitting in a desk, back facing me, and a kid is in the seat in front of the said man.

“Hyukjae-sshi…” the kid exclaimed as soon as he saw me, a bit surprise and worried.

The man hopped down his desk then turned around, “Oh, welcome, Mr. Lee,” with a polite business manner, but his eyes widened when he saw me. “Oh~” he sounded delighted, “It couldn’t be… Mr. Lee Hyukjae-sshi?” then turned to look at Donghae.

Shit, so he knew me, “I am, it’s nice to meet you, but I don’t have much time, so, I will take Donghae with me,” I said in hurry, as if it would really work.

“Now, now, don’t be in such a hurry, Please take a seat! It’s such a pleasure to meet you in person,” said the man politely, pointing at the seat beside Donghae.

“I’m okay,” I refused his offer.

He laughed then asked Donghae, “Are you sure he’s your guardian?”

Donghae refused to answer as he tried to look elsewhere but the man’s eyes. So I answered instead, “What if I am?”

The man looked at me, “Because I never knew you had such a relationship. Well, as far as I know at least.”

What did he mean by that?

The man looked at me thinking for a while before adding, “No. I’m sure you aren’t. You couldn’t possibly be Mr. Lee Donghae’s cousin.” He looked at me again then to Donghae.

I really had no idea what he was babbling about, but I was sure he knew something as he was so sure about it. And well, he was right about me and the kid not being cousins.

“Could it be possibly…” he traced off, thinking of the possibility, “Oh! I understand now!” he exclaimed animatedly and turned to Donghae, “That is why you are running from your uncle! I see… but I didn’t think he would oppose your relationship with this young man, boy, since that old man of yours have no other blood relative and treasures you so much. You know that? It’s a pity, it’s a pity…”

From his talk he seemed to really know who Donghae’s uncle was. Donghae looked like he abhorred the moment this man spilled out his uncle in front of me, he looked pale and sweaty.

“Have you finished talking? Then I’ll take him with me,” I stepped forward to Donghae, but he stopped me by saying, “Not so fast, tiger!”

He reached for a phone then pushed a button, “You don’t want to miss this.”

A second later, a knock on the door followed by a tall man who was dragging a woman inside the room appeared on my view. The woman was Heechul. The man was that Chinese guy with golden hair who picked up Heechul earlier.

“I believe you know each other?” he said gleefully.

Heechul peeled off from the man’s grip and advanced to my side.

“Hyung, are you alright?” he just nodded and didn’t say anything.

“So, now, let’s talk about business,” The man gave the best smile he had.

“I don’t have any business with you,” I really knew how to be a jerk sometimes.

“Well, well, don’t be too cocky, Mr. Lee; you sure resemble your father a lot,”

I bit down my lower lip to prevent me from saying anything useless.

“Speaking of him, your father did a lot for me. But those were not good. At all.” He sounded dead serious about this, I gulped down, “He really saved me a lot of trouble, Mr. Lee, you know, that cocky father of yours… but I heard something interesting about you too! Guess what? They said you weren’t his son anymore!” And he laughed like mad.

“It’s true,” I clenched my teeth.

“How surprising!” He said, walking behind his desk and picking up something from his drawer, a gun. “So I suppose you aren’t worthy anymore, are you, ex-son?” he pointed his gun toward me and pulled the trigger.

Heechul screamed in panic and I could do nothing but close my eyes and accept my death.

But it never came, I opened my eyes when I heard him giggle uncontrollably and saw Donghae in front of me with hand widely open. To protected me.

There was a beat skipped, between my fast heartbeats. Just how pathetic I could be?

Still trembling, I reached for Donghae and dragged him behind me, and beside Heechul.

“You guys are so funny!” He started to laugh again, “They’ll hunt me down till death if I ever let you die around me, Mr. Lee Hyukjae, even if you’re an ex-son. So don’t worry about it too much, you won’t die. At least not here. And no, I’m not happy about this.”

“What do you want?”

“What do I want? Now, that’s business! You’re really sharp, Mr. Lee, I like you,” he laughed, “But only if you didn’t cause me the same troubles as your old man,”

“You knew that old man and I have no relationship anymore. So you are aware that I have nothing to exchange.”

“Well, you couldn’t be sure about it, Mr. Lee, but as for now, I don’t really want to get involved with your family, because it’s the worst I can come out with. But still, it’s impossible for you to be worthless, and of course Mr. Lee Donghae too. I don’t really want to get involved with his family either. But you see, I’m a businessman, I want to make a profit, well, at least advantage of having you two here,” he ended with a smugly smile, “and not to mention you just made me lose one of the best sluts I have,”

I didn’t have to ask to know Heechul-hyung was the one he meant.

“I don’t have anything to offer to you,” I said, not really sure what exactly the advantage he wanted from me, or us, as he wanted it from Donghae too. Maybe it was just ransom in the end.

“Oh, of course you do. All you have to do is help me with a little favor,” his smugly smile got wider. I just kept my guard up and stayed silent. I could feel Donghae was trembling while clutching my back. And Heechul-hyung’s hand, which was holding onto my elbow, was cold and sweaty. “So, here’s the idea, I’ll give both of your old men a call, and you’ll say that you are here with me, then I’ll let you go. You two.” He said, then turned to Heechul and said, “You know that I don’t like to be betrayed, don’t you, sweetheart?” Heechul tightened his grip on me.

I guessed this finally turned to something bad. Well, it was good he was willing to let me and Donghae go unharmed, but I couldn’t leave Heechul, could I? His requirements didn’t sound too hard to do, but I was still wondering what advantage he gained from those. He might be wanting to make Donghae’s uncle, whoever he is, and my family to be on debt with him to let both of us go. And if he thought having Donghae’s uncle in debt with him is a huge advantage, then this uncle sure was someone that could even equal to my family.

The thing was, it wasn’t just that I didn’t want to leave Heechul by himself, but I didn’t want him to call my family to save my ass. I didn’t know about Donghae. I was sure he didn’t want to either anyway, since he was running away from his uncle.

“It’s easy, why do you have to take a long time to decided, Mr. Lee?”

“I can exchange something else, for Heechul,” I said, even if I didn’t have anything to offer. Maybe I could ask money from my sister.

“Oh. What a generous heart you have, Mr. Lee, and what would it be?”

“Money,”

“Oh, but it would be a great amount of it, Mr. Lee, and as I can see, you don’t gain a lot from the job you currently work on.”

“I can manage it,”

“Interesting,” The Chinese Boss said, not amused, “But loyalty can’t be bought by money, can it? He betrayed me and in my associations, there’s only one way can pay for it… Dying.”

“You have to kill me too then!”

He laughed again his crazy laughter. I gulped down, kind of regretting what I just said. Asking for death wasn’t really a good decision.

He was about to give me some sarcastic answer when suddenly his desk phone sent a bipping sound and he had to stop staring at me to pick up the call.

“Oh, let them in,” he said gleefully. “Zhou Mi,” He said to the gold-haired man who stood still in the side since he first entered the room with Heechul, “Looks like we will have more company! I wonder if we should hold a party.” And he laughed again like a mad man.

The Zhou Mi guy didn’t say anything. He threw a fast glare at my direction. And when I was turned around I just knew he was changing stares with Heechul all the time.

What the hell? What are they trying to do?

A knock on the door followed by the same men that escorted me in, behind him were…

Didn’t Kyuhyun and Sungmin have any better plan than get caught? Seriously!

“Welcome!” The Chinese Boss said in the same smugly manner. “Mr. Lee Hyukjae’s friends! We were just thinking about holding a party! Right, Zhou Mi?” He said, but when he looked at the golden haired man, he suddenly stopped.

Zhou Mi got pale really quickly and looked horribly at Kyuhyun. And as the situation couldn’t get worse, Kyuhyun rooted in the spot.

“Zhou Mi…” He said, still flabbergasted.

“Kyu…” Zhou Mi said, looking horrified.

“Oh, so this is THAT Kyu that broke your heart many times, Zhou Mi?” The Chinese Boss didn’t look too pleased. “Oh, well, Mr. Cho Kyu-something, you had broken my little cousin’s heart many times. It’s nice to finally meet you in person.”

“No, Gege, Don’t even think about it!”

“What Zhou Mi? What am I thinking?”

“You’re thinking about killing him!”

He laughed again. I was convinced now, this man was crazy.

“Well, that’s true, my dear brother, then should I?”

“No, you shouldn’t!”

“Zhou Mi, why are you defending him? Are you trying to deny me?”

“You just can’t think anyone’s life is a toy! First, you want to kill Heechul-sshi, now, Kyuhyunnie! Then just kill me, Gege!”

The Chinese Boss’ face was now beet red. “What are you saying Zhou Mi? You’re delusional!”

“I’m not!”

“Don’t do this crap now! I’m worked up enough by this guests we have now, Zhou Mi. Go and cool down your head first!”

“I’m not going anywhere, Gege; I’ll make sure you don’t kill Heechul or Kyuhyun.”

“Okay! Fine! Take them with you! But don’t come back here!”

“Very well,” Zhou Mi said, without even considering it first, that made his cousin even angrier.

“I changed my mind,” said the Chinese Boss. “I’ll just kill you all,”

Oh, shit sometimes happened more often than not.

“Are you freaking crazy? It’s your own cousin you’re pointing your gun at!” Kyuhyun didn’t bother with the fact that he could die within seconds after he said it out loud.

“Is that any different? Dirty blood will always be dirty and bring misfortune. I should have disowned you a long time ago, Mi. You are as unworthy as those shit you’re protecting,”

My heart was beating faster at the statement. I could feel a newly born hate rising up in my chest. I couldn’t take anyone use blood-relation as an excuse for their actions. No. And now I could feel anger following the hate.

“Then what are you waiting for?” A steam of tears running down Zhou Mi reddened cheeks.

The Chinese Boss made a gesture to his men that just entered the scene. “You two, get to the side,” he said to me and Donghae.

Apparently he still didn’t want us to die, maybe it could be my only chance, so I said “If you want to kill them all, go ahead, but you have to kill us too.” That made Zhou Mi stare at me in disbelief and stop crying for a moment.

I could see the Chinese Boss’s face contorted with anger and the man contemplating what he should do. So, my guess was right. It was a big mistake that he told us that he couldn’t kill me and Donghae. Now I could make use of it.

“You’re pushing your luck, Lee Hyukjae,” He said coldly. “If you wish for death so badly, then die,”

Okay, it might not be a good idea.

A rustle of heavy metal and clicking sound was heard and scared the life out of me. I took a step back, forcing both Donghae and Heechul who were still behind my back to take a step back along.

But the triad hadn’t pulled the triggers just yet. They waited for their Boss to give the final sign.

“I guess since you’re the hero here,” The Boss said, a smugly smile coming back to his face, “I’ll let you die first!”

And that was it. He pulled the trigger just like before but this time his gun was fully loaded. The only thing I could do was to make sure Donghae didn’t jump forward to shield me. So I gripped hard on both Heechul’s and Donghae’s wrists then closed my eyes to receive my fate.

A load bang was heard but I never felt the pain. Instead, I heard a whimper.

I opened my eyes just to see Sungmin on his knees, in front of me.

“Sungmin…” I whispered.

However my whisper was muffled by a sorrow scream that came from Kyuhyun.

After that, everything happened too fast for my eyes to catch.

Kyuhyun was throwing himself forward while pulling out something from behind Zhou Mi’s coat. Heechul tugged on my hand that was holding him, dragging me and eventually Donghae to the back of the room.

I just had enough time to see Kyuhyun launching in front of Sungmin and firing a few times before my view was blocked by a couch.

“Wait here,” Heechul urged as he was about to emerge himself out of the shelter. I grabbed his wrist and shot a deathly glare. I snatched his hand bag that he was holding tightly, took out a small gun and threw the bag. After that awkward stare exchange with the Zhou Mi guy, I knew Heechul must be hiding something.

I forced the two to the ground, then peeked from the top of the couch. Kyuhyun was a few feet away with Sungmin, behind a vanity, while Zhou Mi was behind the door entrance.

Some of the triad were down and the rest hiding behind the Boss’ heavy desk that had been turned over.

Desperate in both sides, a few shots were done aimlessly. Until Zhou Mi groaned in pain and fell down. He was shot from behind.

“MI!!” Kyuhyun was now beyond furious. He was about to jump out of his hiding spot if the weak Sungmin didn’t stop him.

Zhou Mi whimpered in pain. He was shot in the leg from behind.

From behind.

They were dreading what was to come next. They were in the Triad hide out, so if they managed to get out of the room alive, there were more waiting for them downstairs.

Pairs of heavy steps echoed in the corridor outside, and not a second later a bunch of guys in black suits invaded the room, with light speed, shooting chains of gun fires to the direction of the Boss’ desk.

Curses and scream and more gun shoots then a complete silent.

I still have my gun up in the air. Bewildered. I shifted my gaze to the guys in black suit. Some of them, with gun still in hand defensively approaching the Boss’ desk. One of them was commanding the rest to retreat. Then that same man, guys in black suit’s commander, eyed me for brief moment before checked on Sungmin.

Kyuhyun dashed to Zhou Mi in the entrance. I dropped my hand in huge disappointment, eyes still following the man.

“Han… kyung… sshi?” I could hear Heechul whispering in disbelief.

Donghae was already running toward Sungmin to join Hannie inspecting the other’s wound, but I was rotted in spot.

The turn of events and all this shock were overloading my brain.

I was red. My face heated up in rapid speed.
