I don't know what I'm doing--yeah, I have a tag for that

So, this week I not so surreptitiously put my real name on my LJ. I've tried to keep the streams from crossing too badly, but I haven't really been that careful. I know I have many fannish people friended on FB, cheek-by-jowl with my other friends and family ( Read more... )

i don't know what i'm doing

I won't use your name until you say it's okay! :)

Until I have a reason to do it, I suspect I won't worry about it. *flail*

It won't be an immediate concern, unless I made the final three in this contest and that is very, very unlikely.

*hugs* I totally understand the flailing - since graduating college, I've kept most of my private posts friends-locked. Most online people know my real first name and could probably find me pretty easy if they really wanted to, and my RL friends know I still participate in fandom, but I never give them enough info to find me here. Two of them did once, but I know at least one of them has forgotten by now. Thankfully.

I don't mind my friends and family knowing that I am fannish, or that I sometimes write explicit slash fic, but at the same time it's a little weird and not everyone gets it. Though I let that be their problem and not mine.

I hear you. This LJ is my fandom LJ only, and only a handful of people know about both my identities. My RL friends and family and coworkers know I write fanfic, but I don't disclose this identity openly. It's more of an open secret, really.

Uh, I actually have no valid point, just that I understand your hesitation combined with your desire to say "fuck it," because it shouldn't be our problem that we like writing slash fanfic, but only other people's problems. :P

Yeah, the more I think about it--the happier I think I will be just being open about it. But I guess if I fail to sell this book I won't have to worry about it! :D

mmm... Yeah. I'm crazy conscious of all my different stuff not being traceable to each other. x_x; Or trying to be... But I'm also weirdly private in a picky specific way, so that's. Maybe just me being silly, hahaha. I was going to say it might be different, your professional potential place and mine/ours, too ( ... )

as you know, I super don't care if people know what my real name is (as I link to my actualfax website in my profile), but I don't mention it outside flock aside from the link, and I don't link to LJ/DW from anywhere with my real name. That works for me.

I would actually think that the super personal stuff on here is more something you'd want to be less public than the fannish stuff, if you're worried about RL people finding your blog.

I'm of two minds, but yeah. On the one hand I like being able to openly talk about my fee fees and mental health stuff-- but the bits that are already locked? Will stay locked to protect other people and not me. On the other hand I think some MO moving forwards will be good. I mean there is no guarantee I'm going to sell this book this year, but I am hopeful. If I can make it to the Top 50 I will have an easier time finding a new agent for example so I'd like to be almost done with that draft in May. Polish it. Hand it off. *HOPE LIKE A HOPING THING*
