I'm starting to doubt how I feel about my fics.  I'm worried that if they weren't written by me, and each word was new to me as I read it, then would I think it was too OC?  I don't know...maybe I'm just having a fic crisis.  Any suggestions you guys have on keeping things in character would be greatly appreciated.  Notes on where you think I've ( Read more... )

Aww ...... I know nothing about Abby/Gibbs, not even which TV show they come from, so I can't comment on your work there, I'm afraid. But I can sympathise with your general feelings of insecurity, because it happens to me as well. Writing fan fic seems so audacious sometimes. Maybe it helps to remember that in a way it's doing two contradictory things. We love the characters and we want to be true to them. At the same time, we wouldn't want to write the fic if we didn't have ideas about new places to take them. We'd just watch the TV instead. So, if there isn't the occasional "Waaah! Would s/he do that?" moment, you probably aren't doing your job ( ... )

That is so very perfect, so right. I feel the same way, trying to be true to the spirit of the character, but by defintion of what we are ding we have to make up their words and reactions. You said everything that I was going to say, but phrased better. And the David quote rocks.

I was thinking about you, you poor dear. I was like "eeek! I'll have to write some Doctor/Rose stuff for you" because I realized you don't really follow NCIS. NCIS is where Abby and Gibbs come from. You should really watch it! It's a crime show, but surprisingly hilarious, with awesome character interactions.

Thanks for taking the time to help me through my fic crisis. Your words were really helpful.

David Tennant is cooler than a cucumber at school. I could eat him right up.

You know, with the warning up there, I was like, what, does she have Gibbs crocheting or something in this one? And then I read it. And loved it. (And now I have an image of Gibbs stabbing someone with a crochet hook...ai, my brain is a bit weird tonight...) I loved the last line especially, because I can just picture his face and tone when he says it. ^^

That said, don't ever doubt yourself. ^^ I have never once thought to myself while reading one of your fics, 'Huh, they wouldn't do that' or even 'Huh, that's weird'. You write watchful-Gibbs-dad perfectly, and I love your insecure-Abby-mom, and you've totally brightened my late-night-paper-writing. ^^

Oh god, now I have to write a crocheting fic. I have to, have to, have to, have to. Damn you!

I think the watchful Gibbs thing stems from my inner desire to have Gibbs look after me. Does that make sense?

Anyway, thanks! Good luck with the papaer!

First of all, I love this fic. It's the little details that make it so special; Lila playing with the shoe laces, small chest pressed to larger, and that outfit! (too cute ( ... )

Ok, that thing you said about waiting for new fics from me probably hit me the harder than every other thing you or anybody else has ever said. Seriously, it made me deliriously happy and warm inside.

You write so IC, so to hear you say I do makes me very happy.

Lets try this again.

Loves. I loved that it was just Gibbs and Lila. Also the thing that stuck with me the most was Gibbs standing her on his chest and the sound of her hands on the concrete.

Hehehe, I was looking at babies at work, in a non stalkery way, and studying them to figure out how to describe them in my fics. Research! Other than my sister, who is only five years younger than me, I have zero experience with babies. Little kids, heaps.

I'm glad you liked it!!!

Lisa, I love your fics, and what everyone else has said is true. but i think they're perfectly in character. (even Lila coz she's like Abby - a little Abby).Inner desire to have Gibbs look after you? absolutely, i have the same desire!!! (Not Mark Harmon, who I think is lovely, But Gibbs!)

Well, thanks, I'm glad you think they're in character. It makes me feel better!:)

Well, I'd love Mark Harmon to look after me too, because he is lovely. I'd only date Gibbs though, because he isn't married.

I want to see more fic from you!
