Her getting transferred upstate had been a shit deal as far as local friendships were concerned, but she had managed to keep in touch with Flack and Angell. When she heard about the shooting, she was floored. It’s one thing to hear about a cop getting gunned down by assholes just looking for a payday. It's another for it to hear that it happened to someone she knew. In fact, that was more like a punch to the gut, and while she didn’t say anything at the funeral, she had a feeling that her presence there meant something at least.
When her old spot in homicide opened up again, she swooped in and asked for the transfer before anyone else could take it. She thought that maybe it would be easier, just to have a familiar face in Jess’s position, as oppose to someone knew that Flack would have to spend a lot of time training. The less reminders he had, the better off he’d be, but that didn’t mean she was going to let him get away with not talking to someone. Especially after the situation with Terrence ( ... )
