"You should just give up" The words echoed uncertainly in the air around me for a few fleeting moments. I stood there, uncomprehending, as if it the statement were a foreign language. All the words seemed English enough, but I had never heard them in that sequence before. My father, the mouth piece, shifted uncomfortably on his awkward feet and ( Read more... )

Please submit one essay.
Remember to keep within the 400-500 word maximum length.

In the space provided, please write a concise narrative in which you describe a meaningful event, experience or accomplishment in your life and how it will affect your college experience or your contribution to the UF campus community. You may want to reflect on your family, your school or community activities, or your involvement in areas outside of school.

That state of mind is something invaluable. You can look to the giants of previous generations and be inspired very easily, but it takes much more than that to accomplish your goals. A feeling of pride and a sense of hope just doesn't cut it. It's a sin to wait with complacency, expecting your dreams to come to you tomorrow; there's only one way that would work, and I haven't seen any miracles lately.

I assume you put it here for a critique, and what the hell, you're applying to UF? I don't mean to be rude, because I do this all the time, but it sounds like your forcing long vocabulary to sound more intelligent.

Also, this sentence is incomprehensible to me.
"My father, the mouth piece, shifted uncomfortably on his awkward feet and stalked away."

Otherwise, I approve.

Nope, UF would never accept me anyway, but the prompts are from real colleges, and people should feel free to use them.
