[ The bat-like golem darts ahead of Allen, displaying a transparent screen projected from its single eye. The young man reads the message there with white brows knit in confusion.
For a moment, TENEKA only transmits a baffling jumble of bewildered thought fragments before he comes to the realization the golem must have transmitted something.
He opens his mouth to speak--then remembers, being night-time, he can't. ]
Great. How am I supposed to respond? I can't exactly write a letter and feed it to you, can I?
[ He means the golem. Or, rather, the PORTAL. And indeed has no idea he can still be heard! ]
She's just speaking right now, right? People can't just hear each other's thoughts, that's crazy!
Then again, just as I'm thinking about that guy in China who sold those, what did Lenalee call them? Baozi? I rounded the corner and saw his cart, right there, just as I remembered it! ...The guy wasn't, but his wares tasted the same.
Not only that, having to go around in masks and mirrors that show you where you were--these things all sound crazy, too--
[ This goes on for a while. And, at blinding speed. This is the telepathic equivalent of a flail. ]
[ Another message pops up on the holographic screen projected by the bat-like golem's single eye, and, without realizing he can still be heard, Allen's immediate response is an uncharitable grumbling thought to the tune of: ]
[ There's a mental flailing that probably comes through as a jumble of images and sounds. It has a similar effect as seeing someone practically jump out of their skin with surprise.
[ Sitting in that cell, hungry and aching, Allen couldn't even count the number of times he thought he would have given anything to hear Lavi drawl a joke or obscure fact (that came from a book, he was sure), or to hear one of Lenalee's almost musical laughs. Some glimpse of his friends to break the monotony.
So there's a surge of sentimentality that Allen can't quite hide, thanks to the PORTAL's TENEKA system. ]

I wish. I'm not sure if this is something you could help me with, Yako.
But I'm still in your debt for helping me once already.

To be honest, I keep running into coincidences like that. I'm beginning to wonder if they're even coincidences at all.

Or you might blow off my arm. I appreciate the offer, but I like all my parts where they belong.
