[ Angela has activated her PORTAL and is holding something in her hands.

On closer inspection, it's a flower. But not just any flower-- the plant is letting off a soft, blue glow that actually lights up the general area. Angela is smiling, just a little as her thoughts travel through TENEKA. ]

It seems we have mana here, or something like it. The ( Read more... )

Lampflowers survive on mana. That's why they're able to glow. [ She frowns a little, turning the flower in her hands. ] I wonder if this has anything to do with the silence and mind-reading that happens here.

It would have to be magic, since there isn't anything that changes other than it being night. I wonder if it's a dark elemental spell, which is why it only works at night...

Not anymore. Not in my world, at least.

Existence requires magic. There is little difference between living and dead otherwise.

That doesn't say a lot for my world, then.

Magic is everywhere in the multiverse, if you know where to look. Why should they fear you?

[ She turns the flower a little, looking lost in thought. ] That's what I used to think, too. Things change.

Mostly because I was a holy terror as a kid. If they really knew me, they'd be checking for trip wires, not smiling and saying hello.

[He frowns, thinking that through.] I imagine they would tell you that you dreamed that part, and that you were really a good girl. It does seem to be the way they react to everybody.

Mana? As for the other part, I only know what's been passed around on the PORTALs.

Mana is the source of magic in life in my world. Well. Was.

Was it a finite resource? Is that the right term? Bugger it; did it all get used?

It wasn't finite when our Goddess was alive to keep it circulating. But now that she's dead... We won't have access to it for at least a thousand years.

Mana? ...They use magic to live off of?

They do. The Lampflower Forest is rich with mana, which is why the flowers glow at night. The fact that they're glowing here makes me wonder what kind of magic they're living off now.
