[Is someone's PORTAL acting up? Jarlaxle blinks at the screen when he pauses in his scouting of the palace to check it. Maybe he should ask, just to make sure it's nobody important to his own plans.]

[Having spent most of his life warding of intrusions of all kinds, having the voice speak in his head is more than disturbing. Upon recognizing the owner's voice just makes it that much worse.

He picks up the device and confirms the identity of the speaker. "You are not safe here." That is what the note had said, wasn't it? Then it shouldn't all be that surprising that a certain leader of mercenaries was out to inquire on this opportunity.]

[He sends his location to him. These things were far to open, and he didn't trust the settings to keep other listening ears at bay.]

[Well that was certainly the surprise Jarlaxle has been hoping for but not expecting. He quickly shuts off the device and silently removes himself from his perch. Surveillance will have to wait awhile longer.

He heads through the streets as quickly as he can without looking suspicious, rushing toward the location given to him until he reaches Gromph. The eyepatch is put on as he runs, that way he can check out Gromph's location before entering, lest he's walking into a trap. After all, none of them would put that past Heda.

Once assured all is safe, he enters, and switches from telepathy to sign, fingers conveying disbelief, frustration, and relief all at once, however he tries to hide it.]

[He turns when he hears steps behind him no longer giving the PORTAL a look as if it was some misbehaving golem. And he is more than grateful that the language has switched to something less invading. He returns the communication in kind.]

What did you expect, Jarlaxle? That someone would try to imitate me and succeed?

[Cringes at the noise. Really, the entire teneka thing was an affront to his dignity. He doesn't move so that the other can see him, his mental voice would carry regardless.]

It is not misplaced. But I wonder, would they offer a replacement should it get damaged?
