A reaction post went up on spn_ruby and everyone was all pissed off that Ruby wasn't good, and was all "way to fail, Kripke," and it made me so sad that so few people were going, "oh STFU that was BADASS."
To be honest, I didn't mind the fact that she was different. I liked that she wasn't like all the other demons, or at least -- she could play it well enough to pull it off. Maybe that was why she was chosen for the job by Lilith, because she could give Sam and Dean the vulnerability needed in order to get them to trust her.
But I always knew that she was evil. And I liked that there was the ambiguity to her. And I do think she genuinely cared about, possibly fell for Sam.

Which, it was. I mean, I called that Ruby was in league with Azazel back when she first showed up in Season 3. So it's nice being proved right. :D
