I know I should be used to it by now, but I am still struck (specially in this series) by how young he looks. Monkey glands or hidden painting in the attic--whatever magic he's got... he's got it in spades!
The closest I can imagine is Charlie, from 'The Man Who Lived at the Ritz' (but I think he was supposed to be French?) Certainly this role was far more genteel than Quint in 'Mosquito Squadron'.
Oh! Let's not forget Sir Henry Curtis in *Giggle* 'King Solomon's Treasure'.
John Grey (even has the right last name for 'the Dorian's Painting Theory'!!) is too smooth!

What strikes me is that he's just such the English gentleman in this series. I don't recall another role in which he's quite that proper.
Well, except Ducky, and he's Americanized to some extent.
