Okay, I feel kinda bad about not getting to this the first week of March, but all my creativity laughed at me, so I'll just have to settle for what I can manage

I don't think I ever regarded LotR as a kind of a "Say no to technology" statement. There are plenty of things in favor of crafts - take Dwarves and Elves. The only thing Saruman is condemned for is technology being used in a wrong way. Oh, and perhaps not thinking about the consequences.
Come to think of the magic, even Galadriel does not like the thing. I'm nearly convinced it was also some kind of technology, perhaps impossible to be understood by the hobbits at that point.

Yeah, me neither... cautionary about some tech, certainly, and it does seem to promote living harmoniously with nature... but a lot of people seem to think it is anti-tech... >.<

*nods* I've heard it said that "magic is just science we don't understand yet" and I think that is a reasonable explanation here! ^_^

You're very welcome! They're one of my favorite groups. A lot of folks have never heard of them, but I'm doing the best I can to rectify that situation. Melodic heavy metal + Tolkien-based lyrics = perfection. ^__^

An interesting piece, and well worth the writing.
So sorry that you weren't in the Lotr fandom in the beginning. :( I'm a book fan from way back, so the movies were just a different branch for me. And I've been online longer than a lot of folks, seemingly, so many resources were open to me for the fandom, just not LJ, but web-based message boards, the Usenet newsgroups (can be found through Google Groups), email lists, and of course all my RL friends who shared the love of Tolkien.

Yeah... I came to the party late, although Tolkien's writings have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and I had lurked in other fandoms since the usenet days, it didn't occur to me to look for Tolkien fen until relatively recently. Oh well!

It's really nice to dream about Middle-earth, but I like my modern time comforts way too much
*nods vigorously* That's why I say go for the best of both worlds. Yep. ^__^
