I've been pretty cynical all along, but I admit that today was the first time I'd felt hopeful about politics in a long time. McCain's classy speech coupled with Obama's stirring one gave me some tentative hope that things might improve.
The fact that it was such an overwhelming victory was pretty stunning.
I have to agree with all of that. I know it's felt pretty dismal to a lot of folks in America, especially the last 4 years when things just got worse and worse. Hopefully we really can turn it around. :)
CNN.com STILL has 4 states too close to call. Even with 100% of the precincts in, North Carolina, for example, is RIDICULOUSLY close - Obama: 2,101,986, and McCain: 2,098,826 - and they still won't call it. I guess they're making sure every single vote gets counted because it's so close.
I'm encouraged by the things he did in his term as senator of Illinois. He introduced a bill protecting women from sexual and domestic violence, and he worked with BOTH sides (Democrats and Republicans) on many issues that nobody before was willing to compromise about, and his state voted him in OVERWHELMINGLY so obviously they've seen what he can do and love him. I trust that he'll get stuff DONE.
