Bam was given a large suite next to Ville. He was donned in silk pyjamas and running around the room in excitement at the sheer beauty when there was a light rap on the door.
Bam composed himself and answered the door, pleased that he found Ville on the other side.
“Prince Ville” Bam said in surprise and welcomed him into the room.
“Please Bam, call me Ville”
Bam averted his gaze from Ville’s tall form, “We both know I can’t do that Prince Ville”
Ville sighed and sat on the bed, “I’m sick of this” he said wearily, rubbing his eyes.
Bam sat down next to him, “What do you mean Prince Ville?”
Ville stared at the floor as he spoke, “The formalities, the lies. I’d like to be normal, to find people who like me for me. For example, when I’m married off it wont be because of love or because I’m attractive. It will be business”
“I know how you must feel,” Bam said sadly, “My parents sold me to a slave dealer when I was a baby. Just like that, I don’t know if they ever wanted me or whether I was just a source of income”
“You don’t know that, something could have happened”
Bam just sighed and Ville looked at him sympathetically.
“But your wrong” Bam said quietly.
“Excuse me?” Ville asked.
“About you not being attractive… I - I think your beautiful” Bam said, finding himself blushing.
Ville smiled softly at him, “Thank you Bam” he said, giving Bam a light peck on the cheek.
Bam was profoundly happy for the room being slightly dark so Ville couldn’t see the severity of his blush.
“Well then, I should leave you to get some rest, I wanted to check on you and make sure you are doing well”
“I am thank you. I owe you so much and I barely know you. You’ve saved my life, more than once and you have given me a place to stay. How can I ever repay you?”
Ville’s smile grew and he gave Bam another kiss, “Don’t you worry about that, you just get some sleep”
Bam returned the smile and nodded, watching Ville rise gracefully from the bed, “Goodnight Ville” he said before Ville left the room.
Ville grinned at the loss of ‘prince’, “Goodnight Bam”
Chapter 7
The queen was true to her word, sending out letter to each province asking for any Margera in the area to visit the caste immediately. Such an act of kindness made Bam feel instantly guilty.
He pulled Ville aside after lunch, “Ville,” he whispered, “Is it necessary to keep lying to the king and queen? Such an offence is punishable by death!”
Ville placed a hand on his shoulder, “Bam you have to understand; if they knew, they would send you back after getting assurance that you would be punished severely”
“But if they find out that I’ve been pretending to be a lord they will kill me!” Bam was finding it hard to breathe, he began panicking.
Ville took him into his arms, “I won’t let that happen,” he said soothingly, “I’ll protect you”
Bam rested his head on Ville’s shoulder, “I’m scared”
A hand petted his brown locks, “I know, but I promise I wont let anything happen to you”
Bam lifted his head off Ville’s shoulder to gaze upon the gentle man’s features. He became engrossed in the calm green depths. As if under a spell, Bam slowly leaned in and closed his eyes, placing his soft lips upon Ville’s pink ones. He only stayed that way for a second before his eyes snapped open.
Bam pulled away from Ville and stared at him in horror, “I… I… Forgive me your highness!” he cried, sprinting down the corridor and locking himself in his room.
He pressed his head against the door before turning around and sliding down it, bringing his knees up to his chest.
Bam’s body was jolted forward when his door was attacked, “Bam? Bam let me in” he could hear Ville call.
Bam buried his face into his hands silently, what the hell did he do that for? He couldn’t let Ville in, not now. Not after he shamed himself in such a manner.
The pounding and shouts stopped after some time, Ville giving one last plea, “Bam please, open the door. I want to talk to you”
Bam withstood the plea as he had all the others, with his head against the door and tears falling freely down his features.
At long last he heard foot steps fading down the hallway and all was silent. Bam let out a sob and threw himself on his bed, curling up on the silken fabrics. He didn’t know how long he stayed there before sleep took him; all he knew was that he was glad for the escape of reality.
