This is one of those weird moments when my soopersekritharrypotterfandom life intersects with my work life. This morning a bunch of colleagues posted this on various social media, and I think its so so so SO awesome that I'm totally going to plan my OF using this method. Its totally in line with how my brain works. <3 spreadsheetslikeafool

(((HUGE BEAR HUG SO TIGHT YOU CAN'T QUITE BREATHE)))

Wish I could say it'll get better soon, Ilke, but I don't know if it does. I hope it does. Any way you can pare down your commitments? Obviously work is work, but what about outside of work? Can you cut something out so that you have an hour or two once or twice a week to just be by yourself and unwind?

As far as getting someone to clean your house, ask around. It's actually cheaper than you think if you can find someone that doesn't work for Merry Maids or the like. How about hiring a neighbor for $20/hr? When you feel like you're drowning, it's totally worth $40 to have someone come in and clean your bathroom and fold your laundry for you. Plus, a clean tub is conducive to hot candlelit relaxing baths, which in turn is good for your mental health and productivity at work. Believe me. I've done this a couple times now and it is totally worth it. Going in I was worried about what they'd be thinking of me and my mess, but when it was done I was nothing but grateful and

With something as ambitious and large-scale as HP I guess you'd kind of have to map everything out like that. Actually, making things like that does appeal to my Capricornian sense of order, but filling it in and figuring it out sure would be overwhelming. I think that's one of the reasons I ended up in poetry instead of fiction. :)

That feeling of not being able to get out from under it is awful, especially the part where you don't feel like you're able to put your best foot forward. But I guess you gotta focus on stuff like Luca's party and the fact that you ARE working (the alternative is so much worse, as you know). And that you're loved! ((((()))))

Oh my. If you have a young baby, and both you and your hubby must make a career at the same time, you need all the outside help you can get - housecleaning, babysitting, yard care, you name it. I do hope this crunch will be over for you soon, and you'll be able to breathe easier.

It does take some serious work to put a novel together, like mapping and outlining. I took several writing classes this August-September, which was quite crazy, but it made me realize that if you're serious about writing, you need to learn the craft first. Which includes plotting, mapping, outlining and editing as well.

Have you heard of The Attic Writer's Workshop on SE Hawthorne? I took classes with two different teachers (both published authors) from it, and it was really good. I'm thinking of joining a writers' critique group with one of The Attic teachers sometime this winter while working on my novel.
