This was a very busy weekend, though I didn't expect it to be. David had vacation this week, so we had a very rare Saturday we could spend together. We went to see the greyhounds at the PetSmart, which was fun and I think David liked them. The adoption group is really trying to find a home for Fantasia (she has been at the last 2 Meet and Greets ( Read more... )

what's Springfield-style cashew chicken? I've had cashew chicken lots of times, but not sure what the Springfield version is...
I'm not even sure I know what Polish food is, really.

hmm I wouldn't want to move into a neighborhood that had those "we call police" signs either. it must be hard to find a really good, safe comfortable block - everything changes so quickly.

aww, the Greyhounds are so cute - I didn't realize until recently that you were thinking of adopting one. that's a great idea! I kept thinking when you mentioned Greyhounds that you were going to see them race.

Springfield-style cashew chicken is pieces of fried, breaded chicken in a nutty brown sauce, with cashews and green onions on top. This is what you get when you order "cashew chicken" in Springfield MO. It's called "Springfield-style cashew chicken" in other parts of Missouri, and sometimes places will also have "cashew chicken" on the menu. I've never seen it outside of Missouri.

We like horse racing but not greyhound racing. Greyhound racing is terrible for dogs. Many racers retire at age 2 or 3 and all have to retire by age 5, and if they aren't saved by a rescue group, they're often put down or sold to medical labs for research. And that doesn't even count all of the puppies who never even see a race track. Since most greyhounds live about 14 years, that's a lot of time they can enjoy their retirement as a family pet. They're great dogs, very social with people and with other dogs. They're great in apartments because they're big couch potatoes, but my building is a no-dog zone, unfortunately.

that's funny that Springfield has its very own Chinese dish:) sounds interesting.

yea I've heard about the way that Greyhounds are treated, and I also knew that the dogs were often killed when they could no longer race. that is why I would have been surprised if you were going to see the dog races. I didn't really think you were, but when you said you were going to see the Greyhounds, I wasn't sure what else you meant. they look like lovely pets. I remember I had a friend in California whose sister worked for a vet, and she took a Greyhound home as a pet (that had been left at the hospital) - it was a really sweet dog.
