Good morning all! To all my friends in the United States, a very Happy Independence Day.

Because I'm still walking on air thinking that out there -- right now -- is the pretty much complete version of Fritz Lang's Metropolis, I started checking around for more news. Will be checking all day I figure until I find more ( Read more... )

solarbird is absolutely ecstatic about this news, too! She's hoping for a world tour once they get the complete film restored and into proper viewable shape. :)

THAT would be...*sigh* talk about lining up for a movie! I've been sorry that the "definitive" version either never was shown on the big screen, or was shown in such limited release that most of us never saw it. I know we're not talking about it making zillions of dollars at the box office, but seeing it on a real theater screen (okay, dreaming here but with a FULL orchestra too LOL) would be one of the best movie going experiences of my life.

Tell solarbird that I'll be walking on air all weekend!

Oh wow, with an orchestra even... dude, that'd be amazing. We have a few places in the Seattle area that could pull that off, but none of them are actually movie theaters. It'd have to be done in a full-fledged theater, I think!

Dreaming of 'Metropolis' on a big screen! ii2none59 July 6 2008, 15:09:19 UTC
With you being from this area, do you remember The Louisville Palace that was downtown? (I think the website is www.louisvillepalace.com). It used to be one of the grand movie palaces of the Twenties, then was a great location during the talky era, hit the skids in the Seventies, and found new life in the Eighties (thanks in part to Louisvillian and Dark Shadows/Alias Smith and Jones star Roger Davis). I still think she is one of the most beautiful theaters I've ever been inside.

Anyway, the Palace would be perfect for a silent movie. Every summer for the past few years, they've been doing movie festivals anyway. I went when they had their Modern Classics series...and caught Raiders of the Lost Ark and Gladiator on the big screen for the first time in ages. They do live concerts there (Sting was there a couple of years ago, but those minimum $85 tickets made me miss him); they do live massive orchestra concerts, and like I mentioned, they do movies ( ... )

Unfortunately, I tend to forget my favorite silent movies when I'm thinking about my all-time favorites. I need to stop doing that. LOL But you are so right about it being "amazing news." Time to revamp my all-time favorites list anyway!

Still trying to track down reports from Buenos Aires about the screening. I wasn't sure if they were showing the whole movie as is or just the once lost scenes.
