Your points about his life are something I brought up to a friend who started going on about how "disgusting" he was. I couldn't figure out why, since he always tried to keep the private private and never really tried (as far as I know) to promote any set of "values" other than excellence at his chosen profession. So he's an excellent golfer - how does that have anything at all to do with the man that he is? And why is it our business?
As I said, given some of my choices and what perception would be if my life were blown wide open to the world at large. Why are all of the women being so completely denigrated? It just makes me think in a buncha directions - not really 'cos I care so much about his life, so much, but because of the discussion it engenders.
You know something -- I don't give a shit who he screws. It's between him and his wife and whomever else is involved.
It's like the media had turned him into this squeaky clean icon, overcoming obstacles in his life to become this amazing athlete (if such can be said about a golfer) and now that they've "caught" him doing something wrong, they're going to regale us with every tidbit ad nauseum to bring him as low and they set him high.
It seems like people and the media like to set people on ever higher pedestals just to bring them down, forgetting that in the end, we're all just human beings, neither saint nor sinner but somewhere in between.
I agree - I really don't care who he fucks, or with what frequency. To me, the interesting part is the national conversation about it, and the conversations I've had specifically with others - even in my business! - that are so harshly judgmental.
