Chat, pr0n, and tech

What's up with Y!IM lately? It can lick my balls 'cos it keeps refusing to connect. Which is problematic at best, since I use it with some regularity for work. Feh. (Yes, I use other chat programs as well, but there are certain contacts of mine that ONLY use Y!IM, and they are kinda important ones, so I need to be able to use it.)

Well, I think it's telling that industry numbers show highest consumption rates in areas that are traditionally very conservative. Having said that, I doubt it was your skill in speaking with them.

The cultural norms associated with sex are profoundly disturbing to me. It's kinda funny that I don't like most "mainstream" porn in the market - which makes up the bulk of our product - but I hold out hope that the presence of strong, opinionated women in our industry will make some changes. There are some amazing things coming out of the queer and kink communities that go outside the standards most of the business embraces, and I'm optimistic we're starting to see changes in approach.

Yim is being a bitch to me too. And I won't get started on that topic you're on cause we'll be here all day and my fingers will fall off. All I will say is this: if prostitution were legalized, there would be much less violence against women in that profession, and I am all about ending violence on women. Cause I'm a woman. And I'm biased that way. People will sell sex regardless, but they may as well sell it safely.

Pretty much.

I think of prostitution much the same way I think of drugs: legalise it and tax it. Make it an open market product, and a lot of the ills associated with it will fall away - and you have a healthier end product in the market instead of something dangerous.

What astounds me is that these are women who purport to love and respect women - if someone said that abortions were dangerous to women, they would be all over it as a sexist approach because men can't have them, and it's clearly a woman's issue. So's prostitution - there are male hustlers, but by and large, it's het men that are the consumers -- and women that become marginalised by its current status.

Everyone purports to love and respect everyone else, until someone else's decision doesn't vibe with their personal opinion, then watch out.
