One of my favourite things about Ilse is that she has a tape deck.
I know: I am rockin' it Old Skool, yo. But I am really enjoying it.
See, I have all those mix tapes. Remember how much we loved making mix tapes back In The Day? And how hours would be spent find exactly the right songs to match the theme you had in your head, and then ordering them for precisely the right combination of tempo/ genre/ style in exactly thr right order?
*nodnod*
Around the time I stopped having time to slave over my mix tapes, people were starting to be able to buy extrernal drives to burn CDs. I remember thinking this was brilliant, because I would be able to have a more durable, transportable version of my mix tapes.
Somehow it never really happened. I make mix CDs now, sure, but I don't agonise over them - I don't spend hours wending my way through my music files to find JUST THE RIGHT SONG. I just kinda fling some crap on a CD and call it good.
And my tapes were abandoned, because hey! I have a cd changer and iPods and all the super-fantastic fidgety gadgets of late 20th/ early 21st century.
But now I have a reason to pull them all out again, and I am Fer Serious loving them.
'cos this morning, as I was driving to work, I was rocking along to one of these ancient mix tapes (Follow For Now! YES! Really) and guess what MUSICAL GEM I have unearthed on this particular tape?
Beavis and Butthead's duet with CHER, singing "I Got You, Babe" (dunDUH dunDAH! dunDUH dunDAH!). And I grinned like a monkey all the way to work.
Thank you, Mike Judge. I miss you.
(PS: There's some lemming thing about questions/ things you wish I wrote about but I don't. Got a question you've always wanted to ask, but were too shy? Now's your chance. Wish I would talk about [insert topic here]? I'm game. I'll screen the comments, so no one will know you're asking - I'll just answer in a sperate post. I'm pretty sure there's not much you can ask that I won't be willing to answer - yes, even that one.)(the comments you can see are ones relating to the above mix-tape thing that I have unscreened as being unrelated and therefore non-incriminating)
music,
happy thinks,
lemming starter,
love thursday
