You can still make animations like these in AS3. But instead of putting the picture over the frame in the animation program, you put it on in another program (such as paint) and bring them combined into animation. (That probably didn't even make sence ._.---but that's how I would do it)

Awesome tutorial. I've been wondering how to do this for ages. I was going to ask you how to use virtual dub but I managed to figure it out by myself. Although I've probably done it the hard way so I would love to know how you've done it. Anyhoo, I made the icon I'm using now by following your tutorial. I was really pleased with how it came out.
